Default FYI for hatchbacks doing rear disc conversion

I decided to do the research on this before swapping the rear drum out of my 89 hatch. I got the setup from a 90-91 crx. I ordered the brake cables for a 90-91 crx with rear disc and THEY DO NOT FIT. They are waaayyyy too short. You MUST use the cables from an integra. So, to all the guys who said to use the crx cables for a hatchback, that does not work.

I think its faily well known to use Integra cables on a Civic and CRX ones on a CRX.

Anyone from Md need some rear discs, I'm selling a complete swap for $300 soon as I take it off the car.

What the bejeezus, that's odd, the crx is the shorter car.

well, whoever has managed to get the crx si cables to bolt up to the civic hatch, i would like to know how they managed to get the cable to stretch the extra foot it needs to in order to fit. The integra cables are a foot longer than the crx cables, so those should be a perfect fit. And as far as keeping the rear drum, i am very glad i changed out my drums to disc. I also put the steel braided lines in and the car stops sooooo much better. and for only a couple hours of work, i would say, why would you want to keep drums? but that's just my opinion. some people like drums. i just don't. Oh, and to answer the other guys question, yea, everything else is a direct boltup with the trailing arm. the lower control arms will bolt right up and so will everything else.

When we did the swap on a hatch everything from the integra bolted up. With the exception of the compensator arm(dogbone) which we had to keep the one from the civic......

i found that the 94 integra ebrake cables are a perfect fit - all the mounts bolt up exactly where the civic ones did, and the length is perfect. all the other integra cables seem to have different mounts and are too long.

I wonder if anybody ever tested stopping distance between the stock set up and then the rear disc set up. i always heard there wasnt $300 worth of stopping distance between the drums and the disc ones once you put on good pads and ss lines

I have heard the same. The reason I did mine was because I was tired of the damn drum brakes squealing all the time, it's a pain to replace the shoes, and I got my rear disc set-up for free.

Anyone who knows better will only do the swap for the convenience of maintenance as opposed to braking performance. It looks better too though.

But of course, especially for free.

Yeah it does look better and its alot easier to change pads, but i cant see myself spending $300 on something that doesnt make my car go faster or stop quicker. Maybe somebody will give them to me for free like they did with EL Vap133

DRIVEN on this board already did the test and drum brakes stop faster then with rear disc, plus they weigh less. Only really why most ppl do it is because its a heck of a lot esier to do maintness on.

Umm I would upgrade to bigger brakes in the front then back. Say a gsr or LS I think they are the same thing but the front needs to go if you have a dx or std and have a bseries swap.

The back doesn't really do much but I would get rear disc then again I think keeping drums are OK depends on what u want

Does anyone have the diagram with torque specs on it? I just got one today out of the junkyard for $100, the dust sheilds are crushed, can I just pull them off or do I need to replace them? Also, all of this cable talk, will the CRX cables work on a CRX? and on with the questions... Since I got the CRX complete rear suspension (the one from the one that had discs) can I now get the lower control arms for the 90-91?

Anyone need a rear disc swap? I have a complete swap for sale. Includes rear trailing arms with nearly new brembo rotors and new pads. Comes with prop valve and stainless steel braided brake lines. I have 2 reman front calipers I will throw into the deal since I have no use for them.
