Default B16 block, LS head, see any problems?

Hi, first of all, Yup, i'm a noob, so please don't flame me too bad!
Now on to the question.
I have a b16 block in the garage, and I just aqcuired a b18a head. I am thinking of putting said parts together (i figure it should be low 9.x:1 compression), and adding a smallish turbo, for a cheap fun lil engine. I could only find one other thread on the board about it (reverse ls/vtec), with not much solid info. Has anyone tried this with good results, or does anyone see any obvious flaws.

that is prolly the worst combo ever, the most tourqeless block match to non-vtec head. get a b16 head and just boost that

Too little displacement to make any real torque or power. I'm not really into B16s but if you just want a cheap motor, might as well do it. You'll make less power than a Z6 motor (D series).

lol,
B16-no-tec !!!
I am in the same boat... I have a B16 shortblock and a B18A head. Yes, just sitting here, unable to sell either, I might put them together to make a B16-no-tec

its been discussed here before.
search.,.,...

I think there are issues for the valve reliefs (in the pistons) but I do not remember exctly what the issue was.

for turbo applications its feesible... you are essentilly making a dohc, non-vtec motor out of a B series (that will end up being very similar to a 1.6 liter dohc nonvtec ZC motor) but the B16-no-tec will allow you to run the more BEEFY b-series trannies... cool huh?

hahahaha!
I'm doing the same thing, but I'm doing it so I can pass Aircare (cdn version of SMOG testing). As it stands, the motor should make pretty good power. The cams are a bit large for the displacement, but the fact that the b16 revs so well makes up for it on the top end. Hell, if a ZC is rated at 130bhp, this should be at least that, if not more since the CR is higher.

It's worth it for someone with spare parts, and a desire to do something different.

Thanks for the replies guys. Thats basically what i was figuring, its just a b series ZC, so i get better/bigger tranny choices. I wonder what kind of n/a hp it'll get. Well, only one way for me to find out.

I guess if it sucks that much (before FI), i haven't spent anything really, so no big deal.

Kudos to you, bet you didn't even know what you've done! Now everyone is going to be like "Who came up with this name?" and you can say "I did!" jk
