Granted some of us have had less than stellar experiences with them, not all dealer mechanics are the same.
You can actually shift the blame to lesser informed consumers who neglect to ask the right questions or set the right expectations. What's there not to know when you have the internet and forums like H-T to look into a problem.
Lazy people always need scapegoats. No offense, but dont join the legions of ignorant people who make blanket statements. It doesnt reflect very highly on you.

hmmm, let's see you just gave him a lecture on not making blanket statements, while it seems you were making one yourself.
Not all lesser informed consumers are lazy, many of them do not have the time to spend on forums such as these due to their day jobs, family, schooling, and other more pressing obligations. Dealers for the most part charge top dollar for the minumum amount of work. This is to keep their profit margins since they don't charge for warrenty work.
So I completely understand the sentiment of most people when going to a dealer for something they think won't be covered under warrenty.
Now that said, do you have a suggestion as to what might have caused this man's crack, so that he might abstain from joining the " legions of ignorant people" since by what you said, I take it you are not one of them.
