Default broke my 87 civic.....

Okay, so I figure after reading through the search material and faqs, that I'm going to get crusified for asking any of this...but honestly, I am at my wits end and DO NOT want to sell my car.....

What happened was this:

was going about 75 mph on the highway when a semi cut in front of me, I slammed the break, changed lanes and pushed on the gas again...when I did this....the timing belt broke....and as you know....hellish, terrilble stuff happened to my poor civic.

My dad did a compression test, and came back with nadda. We pulled the head.

K, so here's the questions:

1.) do I bother replacing the head, when and if I can find one for this particular year of civic?

2.) if yes to question one, what type of head?

3.) do I just try to look for a new engine all together.

( since my friend pete's crx of the same year bit it's timing belt and the head got replaced, yadda yadda yadda, but then because the head was new, it caused a chain reaction problem down the line...and he had to scrap the engine completely.)

yes, I am a chick. no, I'm not a car buff....but I love my civic. I think it's an awesome machine....I want to get her up off the ground again. Help if you can, but go easy on the harsh words about using search and "we've gone over this before" . I did check, but maybe not as thoroughly as I could have.

thanks

funny username...

I'm not flaming or anything, but have you thought about atleast buying a newer civic ?

I mean I'm sure u can find an early to mid 90's civic for about 2000-4000$

EDIT: I just saw that you didn't want to sell your car... so I guess thats my opinion !

I would if I could..but the sad truth is, i'm looking at only being able to scrape up about 500 tops for this repair.

I know it seems kinda dumb to hold on to this old thing...but I was hoping for a miracle!

that's pretty good!.....i keep seeing shells and motors for different hondas all over...even one for free recently...but I don't know a damn thing about conversions and swaps. In fact...I found out more tonight from reading this website...than I had...well...ever!.....

My dad's a mechanic...but for some reason..he never wants to help me with my car troubles. Or if he does...it's very little....

I would have loved to put something like that in...originally when it broke, I had planned to make it a bitchin sleeper...but the money ran away, and now I'm just stuck with really wanting it running again....it is carb I think. I just have to find out now, whether or not the pistons got screwed up....but if anyone else has an idea...let me know.....

http://www.redpepperracing.com is a great forum for 1st gen CRXs and 3rd gen civics. I would suggest buying a new head and making sure that it doesnt need to be milled and that it is in good working condition. You can use any 84-87 civic head I believe, DX Si doesnt matter. They will know for sure @ redpepper. Also make sure that there is nothing wrong with the pistions and that they didnt make any contact with the valves. You actually have an E series engine in there, its not a D series one. Good luck,

Blaze

PS on redpepper you can prolly find a head cheap there.

Take the head to the machine shop and have them check it out.
Now is a good time to do a b-series swap
