Default ZC bottom end revs

Anybody taken their stock dohc zc block past 8krpms? I'm looking into exospeed regrinds with springs, just kinda worried about the tensile pressure, the stock rods arent exactly strong, can hold 200ish hp but not sure about the revs. Any input is appreciated.

I had a pr4 ecu with no rev limiter on my ZC and nodded off only to realize I was at about 8500. The problem is the engine's hp and torque fall off REAL steep after about 7200-7600 rpms so there's really no benefit of over revving it. Remember the D-series doesn't have nearly as square a bore/stroke as the b16 and that's why it doesn't wind up as high from the factory. Honda didn't detune the ZC, the engine itself (not the exhaust and header) was pretty much tuned out when it came in the car. I'd say leave it at 7600 or below, anything more and you're just going to hurt your ET by staying in gear past the powerband.

I missed a gear and ran my ZC up to about 12k. I bent the **** out of the valves but the block was fine. I put a new head on and it's still going. I'll never do that again.

you do realize that he also said getting a new cam (with springs). That cam might be more efficient above 7.5k. also, it's Rod/Stroke ratio, not bore

either way, for the price, not worth it. save the $500 you would spend on the cam/springs/retainers and sell the ZC, buy a b16 and there ya go!

JDM D15B VTEC has the best r/s ratio of any stock d series engine... hell, normal 1.5L's have better ratio than d16s...

I'd say if you got springs and retainers for you DOHC ZC, then take it to 8000-8200 rpms... but there is no telling how long it will last doing that. D series bottom ends arent really built to handle the high revs. they have weak oil pumps, no oil sprayers, and like i said, bad r/s ratio.

Like i said tho, with springs and retainers, 8,000 shouldn't be a problem, just dont do it at every light.

Ummmm......NO! I wouldn't do it. The ZC bottom end is one of the weakest I've seen in a while. I had one, so i can talk, and yes my bottom end went. When it goes, it goes!! Taking it above 7500 is just playing with disaster. My friend has gone through 3 zc motors because of his 8200 rev limiter and always taking it there. Rods are super thin and not very strong. DONT DO IT!

.....And D series are WEAK dumbass!!!!! I know the motor inside and out, yeah it can go 200 CRANK HP , not wheel hp, and at that its pushing it. Remember ..it's not a B series motor from the factory, so don't treat it like one! Think before you post !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well its either 500 and be done with it or drop 2k and get to near the same point. If I'm going to get mounts linkage and axles I'll go all the way and go for the h22....which I'd love to do in my ex, imagine a 4dr h22....sleeper anyone?

Yeh, I'm not expecting it to last very long, it wont get beat on daily as its not my daily driver. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt gonna blow the thing on its first pass. We'll see how it works out.
