Default Alternator Clearance Issues

As im pulling into my drive way one night, i hear my belt squeel really bad. Next day i look at it, and my belt is waaayyy loose. SO loose i was almost able to pull it off with my hands. I then noticed the idiots that did my swap didnt tighten the alternator all the way so it was loose. I tightened it up and went driving around......i took a nice and slow, easy, right turn and BBZZZZZZZ. My alternator pully scrapes the side of my engine bay.. The genious didnt pound the dent in the side big enough for alternator clearance......It has never done this before, and it doesnt scrape it i have the alternator forward a little bit, but then the belt is too loose. so i guess my question is can i move the alternator forward a little bit and buy a smaller belt for a better fit?? or is this gonna **** with the engine timing

If it will clear with a custom sized belt that will work fine. Next time you have the motor out of the car beat the **** out of that area and make some room for it.
