Default Smoked taillights, what's your opinion?

I recently smoked my taillights using VHT Nite-Shades (part no. sp-999), and i'm a little unsure about the results. After a few layers of clearcoat, they came out nice, but not really sure I care much for the look. Maybe it's the car, a BLACK '93 Si hatch, or maybe I smoked them too dark, but I kind of think their's too much black overall lol. I can post some pics tomorrow, but until then, what's your opinion on smoked tails? Post some pics if ya can, let me know!

Here's a before pic, just to let you know what my car looks like...

EDIT: Update, here's the finished product, sorry about the HUGE pic lol, let me know what you guys think!

Understandable...I did them once, and it turned out bad. I stripped it, tried again, and their still a bit dark, but better...kind or scared to strip it again, you know? Any thoughts about just having the top (turn signal, reverse light) portion smoked? Don't wanna do anything illegal .

Yah I also want to know what people think of smoked tail lights coz i've been wanting to do it too. I'm just hesitant coz it might turn out bad. I want to see pics of different eg's with smoked tail lights or smoked signal and reverse part. Hope somebody post one.

Yeah, 2 or 3 coats, looks very dull and gray without it.

I've seen some that actually turned out nice. I know a couple people that have smoked their taillights on an integra and a civic (i'll try to get pics up later) and they look nice on their black cars. However, your paint layering seem UNEVEN which is mainly why I think they're not as nice as you expected it to be. IMO I would've kept it stock but for effort

I noticed that. I think the sun and the shade (behind the car) mess it up a bit also. I'll throw another pic up tomorrow. Keep 'em coming .
