I have looked in the manual and it said that I should squeeze together below the **** on the top of the shif boot to make it slide down...then screw the **** off. Tried it...didn't work. Where exactly should I squeeze..and how hard. I don't want to break anything. It's a 1990 Accord with a manual transmission. Thanks a lot, Indy.

 

I just pop them loose with a small screwdriver.

 

Is that it? No other methods? Don't want to ruin anything.

 

what you need to do is put a decent amount of pressure on the front and back sides of your shifter and then just pull down. its a pretty tough peice of equipment so dont be shy about it.
