Temp Gauge Reaching H!
Well, I'll start off what I have first of all... 1990 Integra (RS) 172k on the Chasis, 60k on a rebuilt motor. For months I had gotten incorrect Temp readings, one day making my way to school, going downhill I noticed my temp guage sky rocket, it was about 5 seconds untill it finally hit the H, and so I pulled over and popped the hood to see what was wrong, the head was fairly warm, not blazing, the radiator was normal.. But the fans kept going anyways, I figured "Faulty Thermostat" so I limped the car home, half way home It hit the H again and I couldn't pull over so I gave it more gas to pull into a drive way, It went from H all the way back to normal temp in less than 5 secs... I was confused... So, I got another thermostat, drove with it and noticed my temp going up a bit and hit middle, then while it went back down to never be heard from again.. Well, last week I was sitting in an intersection and the temp gauge hit H once again I said to myself "What the hell? I can't deal with this in an intersection.." So once the light turned green I accelerated and it started dropping and went back to normal, where I had to sit for the gate to open.. It hit H once again and I pulled over, popped the hood and a hose was spraying all in the back completely making the back portion of the intake steam, Broken hose... great.. Limped the car home, and throughout this whole week I had changed every single hose that was asociated with the radiator, and purchased a brand new civic half radiator, thinking that everything would be great. Installed everything put 50/50 (Water, Coolant) into the radiator and I even put Water Wetter in it to be safe, take it out for a spin and feels like brand new, I just had replaced my plug wires with NGK Blues, so I right then noticed no hesitation which is always a plus, but the car ran like a champ.. I notice that my worse nightmare had come true, temp gauge hit middle, then a little over.. But never hit the H and everytime I accelerated it'd drop down.. So, I take it home quickly and ponder on it for a bit check everything, the engine was warm and the inside of the radiator was just warm.. Well, later in the night (Thinking this would make a difference) I took it out for a spin around the block, everything goes well but I then Notice while going downhill it starts getting hotter, I come to a stop and the temp goes down, so I turn on the heater and it's blowing cold air at me, make sure that the temp is indeed on the heating portion, and it's to the max.. But, I drive for another 3-4 mins with it not hitting the H this time but 3/4 the way and it blows cold air, then finally gets a tad warm, not by much though.. And just liimp the car home, get into my driveway turn off the car and I hear "burrrr...burrr.." It's the overflow.. I pop the hood and check inside again and from the very left of the passenger side head light I saw some steam, but nothing ever again, nothing near the radiator, nothing on the cap, nothing around the engine.. I can't figure out the damn thing.. I do know it's getting warm, or else I wouldn't hear the overflow go off.. So, I figure I have either or ... Another faulty thermostat (I'm going to boil it in water and see if it opens tomorrow) a bad water pump, or worse situation a bad head gasket (But I see no white smoke..).. I'm almost stumped here. Sorry, for the life story, I wanted every piece of information availiable.
i say change out the water pump if you alreayd did the Thermostat...Sounds like my car LOL..I just bought a new KOYO and gonna see what happends when it comes in the mail...I already did the whole headgasket thing last week..Pain in the *** but fun none the less
