Default HF Engine Swap/Build

hey guys whats up?

I have an 89 crx hf.
I am gettin an B16a3 Block from an 00' Si civic for a ******* steal from a friend.
I wanted some opinions on what i should do internaly wise (cams, pistons, valves, Ect.) THE WORKS.

I was originaly going to go with the Ls/Vtec but I dont believe that a can afford to pass up this deal, plus the fact that I've heard the Ls/Vtec is a constant headache.

thanks in advance for all input
im also going with the b16 head unless otherwise convinced

Try installing it first

Then think about upgrades when it's running...properly.

Unless of course the engine needs rebuilding.

well Im not interested in putting a stock b16 into my car, as of now my car runs fine. just really slow

it is alot easier just to buy the parts I want to put in the enigine now and have it fully built.

I really dont want to waste money on buying stock components for an engine that is sitting in a garge waiting to be built up.

when i do something I like to do it right the first time.

please tell me if there is a particular reason that you suggested that.

Also I am still unsure if I want to go all-motor or turbo, so any suggestions on a good generaly tuned engine would be apperciated just as much as the all-motor or turbo extremes.

First off, you need to change your wheel hubs to be able to do the swap!

Second, you either need a cable tranny, or need to do a hydro conversion.

Ok, now it all depends on which direction you wanna go, all motor or forced induction. Forced induction requires lower compression, but all motor requires higher compression. These are just the brands I would use myself, you should do your own research and come up with your own conclusion:

Valve train: Ferrea

Pistons: Eagle, JE

Rods: Eagle, Crower

Crank: Scat, Eagle

there is a crap load more parts, it all depends on which direction you are going, hope it helped, let me know if you need any help

So we should all think you have deep *** pockets?

I'm just suggesting looking into the motors running condition B4 anything

You can dumploads $$$$ into your ride if you want, just don't get ahead of yourself, ordering til your CC's max'd out when you don't even have all the basics covered

Look into prices of MOUNT kits, plus shift linkage, axles, RR bracket mount,
Wiring harnesses, any jumperharnesses, any parts that are missing and all recommended stock replacement parts like clutch, Timing belt, h20 pump, gaskets, fluids, hoses, and anything that looks old<<<you'll want to do this before anything if you wanna do things right.

Once you've totaled errthing find out how much you have left or don't have.

Check out other peoples' rides with swaps already in them Both N/A and F.I. Find out who know their CHIT and hang around them for a while

i gottcha, im really good friends with the person that owns the car this block came out of and the thing runs like a camp. it has like no miles on it and the block its self was just checked out. plus all the little stuff like half of what u mentioned i am getting throught people I know.

money isnt the issue with that stuff, its the cool stuff i need to know how much im going to have to spend.

but please remember the only thing i have is the block. And hopefully i can just by an entire head and repplace what i need to, valves, cams...ect.

and no im not just some bastard with deep ******* pockets that wants to fit in with a racer crowd, Ive been in my my car club over a year now, the prob is they almost all drive nissans theres only one other honda(the Si im getting the block from) and their doing an Ls/Vtec. Ive done other cars and trucks but this is my first honda or 4 cyl. for that matter.

I just want it done right if im going to do it. so just tell me what u would get for it and ill see if i can afford it.( if its too much ill just sell more **** these next few months. commission sales is awesome )

I'm with HumanResource on this one, don't get ahead of yourself. Seriously, just get the ******* thing in your car first. While you're enjoying your new ride (which will not be slow, by any means) you can look at options for your buildup/turbo.

ok maybe im just weird or you guys aren't completly understanding me.

i have a B16 BLOCK in a garage, on a lift. that is it.

so if Ijust put the ******* thing in my carit is obivious that the block alone cannot run . and in my mind it would be a waste of money to go out and buy stock internals , when i could go ahead and buy the stuff that i will be putting in eventully anyway. and this also saves me the trouble of taking the damn thing apart again.

the head however, i know will be bought together and will be re-done. but my concern is the components within the block.

to me this would be the logical thing to do.

have you rebuilt a motor before?

the questions you're asking make us think you have no idea even where to begin with this 'buildup'. So that's why we say just get it in the car first.

The way i see it is, "you first have to decide what you want to do." Do you want FI, NA, or just stock? After you decide this, I'm sure we can help you out more. Everyone has different opinions so when you ask what other people think or would do, they are going to suggest what they want to do, not you.

Alright well this is what I get, he has a block that I understand I would suggest going with the SI vtec head again and then aftermarket from there....what I mean is JE pistons AEM fuel rail, etc..... you all get the point..like he said he wants to know which way to go or what to do before he actually pieces the engine together...now from his post alone it does not seem like if he does not know what he is talking about....what I see is that he just wants opinions first before he does anything.........

hmm... things to do.. well... here's just a general list of things.. just pick and choose, eh?

valvetrain
port/polish
pistons (if you go NA, get the ITR or CTR... if you go FI.. go with gsr internal.. just my opinion)
fuel pump, water pump
timing belt
spark plugs
wires
grounding wires
intake manifold
new ecu... blah blah
if you want to keep the AC, i think you'll also need new A/C mounts
Motor mounts

umm... basically anything that is attached to the hf motor, you gotta replace.... so that's gonna be a lot of money...

oh yeah... if you swap into the hf... you have to change your axles... i had to do it for my hf too

that's about all i can think of... but yeah, like everyone else said.. a lot of it depends on whether you wanna go NA or FI.... that'll determine a lot of the internals and other bolt on stuff....

the hf is fun... but it sucks cuz nothing fits on the body, so it takes more money to fit everything in there.... but enjoy... i'm gettin my car back on wednesday.. woo hooo!!!

another question , would it be worth it to go ahead and when I get it polished, get it bored maybe to like 1.8 ? or would that cause more problems?

if you can do that, then worry about the build.

no offense intended.

well if you have ******* read the last 10 ******* post you would realize that when it comes to honda's and yes i am a newbie.

you have done nothing but said the same damn thing over and over the point is there is nothing to "get in my car".

it seems that only 3 or 4 people get what im talking about so if your going to keep syaing the same thing over and over please stop posting at all.

now those of you that have given valuable advice , thank you. i know i need to make up my mind as to wether im going NA or FI. as of right now im thinking more FI.

also ,[B]tupark[B\] you said that you did an HF, have you done a rear disk conversion yet? Im also thinking about buying the brake assembly from my friend with the 00' Si. would you say that is a decent choice or would you go with a kit made for our cars?
