im a conformed chevy man turned honda lover but i need help
Hey guys im new to hondas so I don't know a lot about them i was a chevy guy i have a 93camaro
but after my friend JP gave me a ride in his 92 acura integra type R man that was fast
but i want to be able to beat him. I have my eye on a friends car a 90 crx SI it needs a new wind shield im thinking lexan or how ever its spelled you know the light weight race wind shields that bolt or rivet in. if you know where to get one pleas tell me im also looking at what I want to do with the motor im looking for a lot of power for a good price im not a penny pincher or cheap but if i can save money then i can invest it in other things. And its going to be an every day driver so keep that in mind I don't know if I would want to swap for a b16 or a b18 or keep the motor that's in it and convert it to Vtec (i love that thing) then turbocharger. And the car has a 5 speed i herd that sucks for power and speed so any help there would be nice to. So pleas any ideas would much appreciated so pleas any ideas

The CRXsi model is nice..it doesn't have VTEC, and is not DOHC but it has nice "quick" gearing..i love my CRX! Not to mention if you have the time and $$$ you can put almost honda engine into it. So yeah i'd have to say 100% go for the CRX!
Well, the crx si with a 5spd is top notch. You want the 5spd, trust me. The people that tell you that auto is better are wrong. A daily driven b series engine is just fine. Try the b16a it will cost you around 3k or so, but its totally worth it. I had a b16, and recently upgraded, but its a great start. If you just want a little more power go with a vtec head, but if youre like me you will likely upgrade soon after. Ryan
PS, b16 how to in my sig.

yeah the b16 is nice...even near stock. i'm content w/beating mustang gt's w/it, but since you're a chebby man, maybe a b18a, or b, or c would be better for you since you'd prolly want a lil more tq.
B18A w/a lil boost would give ya a lil kick in the pants

Yeah like said, a B16 or B18...... But if you really want to keep most of the engine that is in there, there is always other options. You could pick up a D16z6 (92-95 si) Vtec head,or D16y8 Vtec head(96-00 civic ex) and then throw a junkyard turbo. B16's can get quite expensive, but definitely worth it, even to start with. Especially if you know a thing or two about cars already, or are willing to learn.
The D-series have allot of potential, especially if they are internally worked and/or turbo'd. Depends what kind of project you want to take on. D-series parts are definitely cheaper. I've seen some friggin impressive numbers over at D-series.org.
your call.

Does a stock si motor with a Vtec head and maybe turbocharged stand a chance against a b16 or b18 if any one has raced a crx with this set up or has one with this set up tell me how it is what you think about it the power it can put out under normal every day driving operations that could last
If you are planning on putting a H22 in your crx then plan on spending a lot of money on labor for the guy fabricating it lol
my vote goes for a boosted B18a

:waits for 2point2 to chime in:
h22 lots of work but might worth it.
how much work/fabrication do you want to do thats the main question
and how deep is your wallet

I've also spent my time with V8's, so here is my recommendation;
Pick up a B18B (reasonable price) and then look for a used JR supercharger (get the compressor rebuilt prior to install).
The B18B is non-VTEC, however you should look for anything that will give you more lower RPM torque!!
I think it would be fair to say that us ex-V8 guys find it kind of hard to rev an engine to 8 grand to see any horsepower.

yeah its very scary i keep thinking there going to blow my camaro only revs to 6,500 but thats where hondas get there power at
You could also consider the option of building an LSVTEC, if you like torque, this is one of the best ways of going about it. B18A bottom (longest stroke) w/ B16/ITR/GSR head for the high RPM power. Built correctly, they can be reliable torquey engines, I love mine.
Well, it loks like everyone wants to tell you different things. Yes, first figure out if you want torque, or horse power. Then if you want a turbo, SC, or NA.
If you want torque, go with a b18a. Then you can easily add FI later on.
If you want HP, get a B series vtec (very reliable).

There are two reasons that I didn't recommend a B20.
The first is that it's not possible to legally install a B20 (at least here in California) due to it's being considered a "truck" engine.
The other is that there are potential problems with it clearing the hood.
Both reasons may not be valid depending on the individual.

Here's a little question for you:
If you already have an LT1, and you are looking to buy a 4-cylinder economy car so you can turbo it.... why the hell don't you just slap a blower on you V8 and be WAY faster? It makes no sense to get rid of that car.

Perhaps he wants to try something new? After work ong V8's it gets kinda repetitive and you need a new toy to play with. Buy the CRX - great things can be done to it (if done right)

This is the way to go. Search b18c5 or itr
B16 is nice too but i'm ready for more.
Pulling it out soon. Building a 2.0 type r motor.
Turbo it if you want more.
I'm glad you made the switch.
