Help with 95 del sol vtec?????
well.... i was at a local car dealership the other day when i see a 95 del sol in the lot. it was a kinda light greenish color.... not sure exactly which one. i was interested in the car, so i went home and looked at the models that came out in 95. on edmunds they had 3 different models listed: del sol, del sol si, and del sol vtec. i had never heard of a model vtec, so i went back to the dealer to talk to the salesperson more about it. i noticed that the si version had 127hp listed, and the vtec 160. the dealer wasnt sure which it was so we went for a test drive. when i got on it, it sure as hell didnt feel like 127 hp. the vtec was quite noticible after about 5krpms. im just wondering if any of yall know a little more about this car and can maybe inform me about it. going back to the dealer on monday to see if we can working something out. any feedback would be appreciated..... like if the car is worth getting and whatnot. 95 with 75k miles. drives really smooth. thanks.
it's a Si model. The dohc 160hp VTEC model didn't come in green. just get the vin number and go to http://www.carfax.com and it'll tell you what model it is though
Del Sol's...
93-95 Del Sol S - D15B7 SOHC non-VTEC - 102hp 98lbs/ft tq
93-95 Del Sol Si - D16Z6 SOHC VTEC - 125hp 106lbs/ft tq
94-95 Del Sol VTEC - B16A3 DOHC VTEC - 160hp 111lbs/ft tq
96-97 Del Sol S - D16Y7 SOHC non-VTEC - 106hp 103lbs/ft tq

96-97 Del Sol VTEC - B16A2 DOHC VTEC - 160hp 111lbs/ft tq
easiest way to know which Del Sol you're talking about, is to look at the engine block code.

with the info i gave, you shouldn't have anymore questions (you better not

but remember, it's not called the Del Sol DOHC VTEC.
its just Del Sol VTEC, which is why a lot of n00bs get confused.
when they think of Si, they have a picture of a 99-00 Civic Si in their head, and think its the same.

True, but one is a black engine and one isnt lol, not too hard to tell the difference. Also, SOHC and DOHC engines look different, someone post a picture!

just save up for a DOHC model. it's not that much more expensive. the sohc ones are slow, very slow, well i guess you can beat civic coupes at least, lol. also, don't get a del sol that is green. green is the worst color they made imo, and btw i told you beetches it was a Si now didn't I

if u want a sol.. get a early model s with low miles on the shell .. then get a b18c or b18c5 and do a swap ... ull be happier in the long run .. and if ur lucky ull be able to get motor for cheep and get gsr front/ rear disk brakes and brake booster from a junk yard .. but ull need si rear disk e brake cables.

alright boys and girls stop your yapping...
if the engine looks similar to this, then its a DOHC VTEC.

People get confused about the sol because half the world thought the B16 came in the Civic Si 99-00 and didnt realize it was in the sol which had a short life. Go to Kragen and Autozone and buy parts for your del sol vtec--most of the time they'll give you SOHC parts. You have to kind of scrounge around figuring out if its the "Del Sol" or "Del Sol VTEC" -- too bad both of those names are for the DOHC VTEC at some auto stores. Alright enough babbling... this is nonsense anyways.
I hope you get the DOHC VTEC though, you'll be ALOT happier with it, almost as happy as ME! :D

Thats kinda of a stupid statement if you ask me. Of course its going to be slower but it could be built to be faster. so all of us d-series owners are stupid for buying civic coupes and hatches?

if you buy a del sol and don't get the dohc model then yes, it's silly when for 1k more you can get the dohc and get upgraded suspension and a better motor. I had a D16Z6 in my sol with a turbo, and it was still pretty slow. Sorry if i offended you but i only speak the truth.
btw- check out the guy in nevada selling his dohc vtec sol for 3300 bucks.

Then you must not have had the right combo of turbo cause my y8 with greddy kit went 14.1@100 in the 1/4. A del sol with b16... cams/i/h/e/pulleys/intake manifold will probably not even be able to pull a 14.1.

we'll run, your d series with turbo against my b series with turbo. i ran 14's with my greddy kit and d series too. and yes, it's slow.....sorry.
sorry about cluttering up your thread man. this is my last post on your topic

I'll tell ya what...let me spend 2500 on the SOHC build(cost of a b16) and then whatever turbo setups we each want...we'll run ur stock dohc turbo vs my built sohc turbo...same price in motor but look at the difference in ability for the same price....you can buy fully built (sleeved, rods, pistons etc) sohc motors for around 2500$.
if you spend the same amount of money on a stock b16, you'll do equally as well... We can do anything with any engine and get it to any time with any amount of money... lets try to keep this thread from going to hell...
Look point of this thread is, get the best engine you can get in a car... Why start with a d16 engine if you can start with a b16 for a not so much more and its stock. Not only will it retain its value a lil better its also a rarity to see a STOCK b16 sol...
