lowering problem?
I lowered the front on my car with no problem. when i got to doing the rear the bolt on the lower shock would not come out on either side. i tried using wd 40 and still wouldnt come off. And suggestions would be helpful? thanks....
Yeah I just lowered/re-did my springs and struts.......I actually snapped the head off the bolt on the passenger side rear, the bolt that connects the strut to the lower control arm. The bolt had actually rusted solid to the bushing. I ended up having to get a whole new lower control arm because the acura shop I took it to said that would be the same price to remove the bushing as just getting a new control arm.
I used my neighbors air impact wrench for the rest of the bolts on that side and the drivers side.. so if you haven't already tried it I would suggest trying a impact wrench on those bolts. If you have access to one.

those bolts are a paint int he *** on all hondas. I had to press new bushings in when i changed mine. and cut out the bolts. Impact will not help once a honda is about 6 yeras or older.
Yeah I would have to agree, that one bolt was in there good! But the impact wrench got all the other bolts out ok. I just figured it was worth a shot for the guy to try the impact wrench on them......could hurt anyways.

Wrong, I have never had a problem w/ my rear LCA bolts, and my car is 10 years old. When I first lowered my car 2 years ago, I used a 12-volt electric impact wrench (very slow, about 1 impact per second) and it got the bolts out just fine.
What breaks the bolts is sustained high torque, like using a breaker bar on them. Short and rapid high-torque impacts from an impact wrench usually gets them off and should not break them.
If an impact wrench breaks the bolt, then the bolt was probably already weakened anyway and not very safe.

Yup thats what I did was try and use a breaker bar on the bolt I snapped......after that I used an impact wrench and the rest of the bolts came out fine. It was an expensive lesson... Here is a picture of the completed project....well part of it

If you can't get the bolt out, there's really only 2 things you can do.
Buy new aftermarkter lca's or buy used lca's with the bushings still intact. Or you can bust the bolt and replace the bushing inside, but you'll need a press to get them in. Either way, if you can't get it off you'll have to find a way to bust the bolt. You can try torching it off if you have the equipment.
I have the same problem, no luck finding any used lca's, so I'm stuck trying to get my hands on a press.

You do NOT need a press to get bushings out. Sure a press is faster, but it could be expensive. All you have to do is heat up the bushings with a propane torch ( can be bought cheap at homedepot) and then heat it up good, knock the center collar out. Then use a hacksaw or sawzall and carfully cute the metal ring that holds it, then knock it out. Then buy some ES bushings since they are cheaper and better.
Dont tell me this method doesnt work either. I know it does, I did replaced every bushing in my car with ES ones, and I used this method, and have pics to prove it
