Default Civic Speedometer not working

My 2000 Civic's speedmoter is acting nuts. It will only register as high as 20 miles an hour no matter how fast I am going. Somtimes it stcks at zero. Ohter times I am stopped and it stcks at 20.

Any ideas whats wrong ?

Thanks,

Not at all, it is on top of the back side of the tranny. Unplug the connector and take out the 10mm bolts, then just pull it out. Thats all!

sounds like your vehicle speed sensor is going out. they're interchangeable from other trannies that i'm aware of.

Sweet. Thanks guys.

Any idea how much one of these runs?(at a normal auto part store)

Someone mentioned above that they are interchangeable? So since I have a 98 DX (D16Y7)...what other ones will fit incase my auto parts store dont have mine?

try to avoid buying it from the auto part store if you can. i'm sure you can find it off of a bastard tranny no one wants for dirt cheap.

as far as interchangeability, when my the VSS in my GSR tranny went dead i swapped it from my D15 tranny. bolts and plugs right in.
