i've found two, both for good prices, but neither of them have the same indicaters or layout as my current usdm guages (97gsr). which one do i get?

mine:
left top: oil, c.e.l.
bottom left: maint reqd and cruse control
center top: battery, highbeam indicater,parking brake, turn signals
left top: seatbelts, door adjar and srs
left bottom: trunk adjar, abs and fuel light

jdm1: (claims to be from a 2001 spec itr)
left top: oil, cel
bottom left: nothing
center top: battery, highbeam indicater,parking brake, turn signals
left top: seatbelts, abs and srs
left bottom: trunk adjar, seatbelts and fuel light

jdm2: (claims to be from a 98 spec itr)
left top: oil, cel and what looks like water temp indicator?
bottom left: nothing
center top: battery, highbeam indicater,parking brake, turn signals
left top: seatbelts, door adjar
left bottom: trunk adjar, abs and fuel light

im not an expert on g3's, and i dont know if the guage clusters from pre 98 swap w/ after 98. and i dont know what jdm years are = to usdm.

so i dont know, but id get the 98 itr since it is closest to your car... but i have no real idea

 

You would need a '97 or older cluster to work in your '97, as the wiring changed in '98. You will also find that JDM ITR clusters have red backlighting. Your speedometer has green backlighting.

I bought a JDM ITR cluster for my '97. Since my speedometer looked horribly out of place, I just used the yellow gauge needles, the carbon look bezel, and various icons (e-brake, etc.).

So, if you want to swap out the needles and icons, go for the cheapest one. It won't work otherwise.

 

Wait till you find a 96 or 97 JDM ITR cluster that matches your cluster, when i had my JDM Si-VTEC i looked at numerous ones on ebay till i found one that had all teh warning lights in the same position as mine, bought it and it worked 100%. You will need one with both SRS and ABS and to be honest thats going to be extremely hard to find as SRS was an option on 96Spec ITRs and i have yet to see one with SRS, so you may be as well swapping the speedo and rev counter unit from the JDM one into your own cluster and also the C/F bezel
