Default Vtec....or no?

ok this isn't a technical question, just about everyone's opinions. i was talking to a guy a few weeks ago, and he was telling me that vtec engines are koo, but he said that eventually, any fixed up "non" vtec engine will smoke it. he said thats because the vtec limits you to what modifications you can make, whereas , non vtec engines have no limits. what do u guys think? Vtec or non vtec?

Well, for a street vehicle, nothing beats VTEC. It allows for massive top end power without sacrificing low-end drivability. A dedicated racecar engine, however, is better off without VTEC since they spend all their time near redline. The super aggressive camshaft kits for VTEC engines do away with VTEC and the big lobe altogether. The corresponding reduction in valvetrain mass allows higher revs (like above 12,000 rpm) and the reduced valvetrain complexity increases durability.

the single lobe conversion kits that toda makes, yes but he said the guy said

any fixed up "non" vtec engine will smoke it
sounded like visor logic instead of any intelligable reason

Oh oops accidentally deleted instead of edited my post.
It was supposed to say:
VTEC f-ing rules.
Anyone that says otherwise is just jealous.

of course vtec is great and all...but low-compression non-vtec engines are good to have if you're going turbo. The lower the compression ratio the better it is for turbo.

too a point you would not want to go too low, then you have no off boost power and it will take longer to spool the damn thing

For boost, I'd say getting an F22A1, maybe even with a Gude head. The VTEC on SOHC is so mild, it doesnt' make much of a difference anyways.

that is because the factory x-over is so high, lower it and i promise you it will not be so 'mild'

lowering compression?? i lover the vtec crossover, that will place you on the higher cam lower in the rpm range which will yeild some gobs of hp's and more importantly torque

is a V-AFC the same thing as a Vtec Controller? if not, what's the difference between the two? and how much does each cost?

the V-AFC is a VTEC controller and also a fuel controller so you can dial in your air/fuel ratio.
