Default Caught in a FLASH FLOOD

Well I got caught in a flash flood today, sucked water into the motor and the car died in the middle of this huge puddle. The water level kept rising and started coming in through the doors and flooded the interior. SUX. I was stuck. Cars kept going through the puddle and splashing water up against the car forcing more water into the cabin, it was about as high as the center console. The seat, carpet and floor mats got all fucked up. Thankfully two guys in a Dodge Ram 3500 came through and were able to pull me out of the flood, but the damage had been done. When I got out of the car to help them pull me out, the water was up to my thighs and I am over 6 feet. It was up to the headlights on my R. I had to call a flatbed to come get the car and bring it back to my house. I did some looking around to see what other damage occured, it looks as if the computer got a little wet, but I think that it is OK because I turned the key a little to see if the car would fire and it wanted to but the engine did not want to go and I heard a bad clunk so I stopped that immediately.
When I got home I called my insurance CO, Geico, and since it is considered a natural disaster, it is not my fault. I have an adjuster coming out to look at the car in the next day or so, so we will see what happens. Although I am not sure what they are going to say seeing as my car is stuffed with aftermarket parts. Especially the AEM CAI, I guess we will see.
SO DOES ANYBOY HAVE A STOCK INTAKE IN THE NY AREA, FOR AN ITR THAT I COULD BORROW TO INSTALL SO THAT AT LEAST THEY CAN'T GET ME FOR THAT, IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED? THANKS.

Justin

Would driving into a river be considered a "natural disaster"? :shakes head:

By the way, did you ... or the adjustor, mention the phrase "natural disaster"?

Damn, sounds like the engine has some pretty bad damage, probably bent valves.....

I would love to buy it if insurance wasnt involved.

Something tells me it wouldn't be that easy to push a 2600 lbs vehicle through 2 feet of water. Ya, sure I guess you could try all day but you probably wouldn't get very far.

BTW, your spelling level is trying my nerves. Spell check.

No, the point is to have the BRAINS not to drive into something like that!
Especially knowing you're sporting and AEM CAI.

rods probably bent

you never start the car after something like that until you can pop the spark plugs out and dry the engine

time for a rebuild....maybe a new block too now that the car has had an attempted start.

I'd take the money, gut it, and call it a day. Make it into a true race car.

Water sucks 455, if it dosen't kill you right away, the rust will get you later (all srews/bolts rusted, rusted electrical connections).

Good news, your motor might still be fine. Remove the primary wires, plugs, dist cap, dry it all off, use [pressurized] air if available.
Turn engine over w/o the plugs in it.

Inside, remove the carpet, hang out to dry. Might need a new one.
Seats, you'll have to remove the seat covers, and do as the carpet.

Remove computer, take apart, drain water, carefully dry it off; I've seen BMW computers work after being submerged in water.

And most importantly, remove that AEM ASAP.

Chances are very good, IMO, that your car might be totalled if that damage is as you say, be careful how you talk w/ the adjuster, think about if you want the car to be totalled or not.

-K, who somehow did not see any rain today in NYC. WTF?

To clarify it was a FLASH FLOOD and there was no time to get the car out of the way, I didn't drive into anything. And pushing the car was not an option, the water was up to the headlights and other cars driving through the water were causing more water to get into the cabin.
Tomorrow I am going to gut the interior and pull the plugs, drain the oil and turn the crank over by hand and try to get any water out of the cylinders. I will keep you guys posted.

OPIE- If we could meet up this weekend so that I can get that intake it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, I was out for a smoke when that damn thing pour here in Long Island yesterday. Well...by the time I finish my smoke, cars on the street were splashing water at me from 20 feet a way. Any more quantity pouring down than that would be consider a Tsunami

But honestly, if I end up in a rain like this in my ITR...I would come to a complete stop and hide out in Starbucks or McDonalds or something till everything clears up

Best of Luck Justin...

Your insurence will pay for it, reguardless if you have a aem cai..

they will pay for your new motor. make sure you get them a good quote, if you do the work yourself, you save quite a bit of money.

Honestly, they will try and **** you in any direction and position they can as its the nature of a business to try and profit from it's customers.

Do everything you can to minimize the headache, and simply put your AEM was most likely the cause of the hydro lock and you would have had a better chance to avoid the situation with the factory intake box. They will come up with more **** than you thought possible, especially if the adjuster is a punk.

If the stock air box is on there, and he says the water was that high, it would have happened AEM CAI or not, so it would be less headache with a factory part IMO.

I know how that goes man, same thing happened to me down in Encinitas last year. I was heading towards an intersection, by the time that I had waited for the light to go from red to green, the intersection had literally filled with 2 feet of water. Luckily, I didn't have anywhere near as severe an incounter as you, but I totally understand nonetheless. I am sure that your insurance will take care of everything, but I would put the stock airbox on just to avoid any possible headache.
