R owners and lowjack
I read a lot of posts on this forums about low jack and how cars are still being stolen with the lowjack system installed. I am almost positive that lowjack offers some kind of guarantee that if your car gets stolen then they will pay you a set amount ($10,000?). Have any R owners here persued that or is there some clause in their statement about paying off the owner that lets them slip past paying anyone off once their car gets stolen?
Just curious, I apologize if it isn't type rrrr related enough

When it comes to Lojack, is it fairly simple to someone disengage the system? I have it on my Civic but I do not really know what it does because the original owner purchased the system. I assume it some type of GPS locater, and with that in mind it sounds easy to take out?
I heard several stories in H-T that even when the lojack system was installed their cars still did get stolen and still have not gotten recovered yet. well thast what I've ready and im sure many H-t members would agree with me.

It will tell you everything you want to know about Lo-Jack.
I had it two cars and both were stolen...one was not recovered the other was. It all depends on the police department and the thief. Can't say Lojack is good or bad because there are too many variables.

My R was stolen 5/15/04 and I had LoJAck, to this day it has not yet been recovered. i may try gps tracking for my next car. lojack
no matter what, a pro thief will get your car...just pay $$$ for insurance to cover you

if a pro theif wants your car, they will get it. And lojacks not all the great, even with early warning. By the time the cops find it, it will already have been raped.

where do you get this insight?
where do you get this insight?
What could happens is they could have one of the theifs take a job at lowjack just to learn enough to get passed it.
If your honda gets stolen and is missing for 24 hrs who gives a $hit if its recovered, the ****** is already stripped to the bone. Lowjack is a waste, save the cash and research other forms of tracking.

My Type R stolen with lojack....recovered 4 hours later with very little damage.
Like I said before, it is not Lojack that is good or bad, it is whether the theives are really good and/or police are looking for the car or not.

eh, so lojack is not a tracking device anymore, but rather an overpriced kill switch?

so many tossup's with lojack on this board. Their website says otherwise http://www.lojack.com/why/index.cfm
YOUR VEHICLE SAYS "HERE I AM!"
The LoJack system works through concrete walls, ceilings, and other barriers (such as underground parking garages) to locate LoJack-equipped vehicles. Other services use a satellite system, which requires an unobstructed line-of-sight between the vehicle's satellite antenna and orbiting GPS satellites.
DISABLE IT? THIEVES CAN'T EVEN FIND IT!
The LoJack equipment is hidden within a vehicle (not even the owner knows where it is). Other systems rely on a short visible antenna that can easily be broken off by a thief.
LOJACK GUARANTEES RECOVERY!
With the purchase of a LoJack, you receive a two-year Limited Recovery Warranty. With this Recovery Warranty, if your vehicle is stolen and not recovered within 24 hours, LoJack will refund the purchase price of your LoJack system up to the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). Additional warranties that extend your coverage are available. Ask your dealer for details.
sounds promising doesn't it

Only if you believe advertising claims. Empirical evidence on this board would indicate that chances of recovery with a Lojack system installed are very low.
I can think of hundreds of better ways of spending $1k.

i did a little searching and this is what i found out about the "boomerang" setup.
it pretty much reminds me of LoJack, as it is never seen or told where in the car it is installed.

i think alot of the reason's LoJack doesnt seem to be working for alot of Type R owner's is simply the police tracing the LoJack signal. itself. I know when my Talon TSi was stolen, it was seriously left in a industrial park right beside the police station, and it still took 72 hours to recover (after a 18 wheeler couldnt get into his loading dock). im sure the LoJack system works its just the people behind it that arent working. not sure if u get what im saying but it makes me not wanna waste my money on one. im simply going to build a garage with a steel door and a deadbolt, without any windows. basically lock my car in a prison with solitary confinement.

It all comes to down to customer service. Soon enough, if not already, there will be anti-theft tracking companies by the dozens like ISP, Mobile & Phone companies. More choices than breakfast cereals.
When theres MANY and not 1 or 2 such providers, customer service, product reliability & $$$ will be a defining factor in accumulating customers as-well as retaining them and the products will be much more efficient in regards to their service promises for greater customer satisfaction. Prices will drop as-well due to increased competition.
(perhaps in the future) These companies will then have access to digitally controlled signals to switch off the car as-well as control other functions to stop the theft. Plus their own reconnaissance team will then disperse (heicopter for quick arrival followed by road team) to promptly recover the vehicle before any damage (or too much) can be done.
These operations will evolve to such an efficiency that car theft will be almost phased out where a chance of only 1 in 20,000 reported thefts are unrecovered.
There is a definate private market for such a product and customer potential could be huge. The market in the US alone - what an amazing market potential, thinking internationally - Europe, Australasia, Sth America's and the growing Chinese market, the potential is huge i'm sure there could be unspent billions awaiting for such a product backed up by the right customer service, operations and proven efficiency & reliability.
Another step in anti-theft evolution could be among us.
(if this is already happening in ones country - excuse my ignorance, it just came to me and i got abit carried away in this state.
