Default Foot brake and wheelies...

Never, ever slam the foot brake while doing a wheelie. You'll come down harder than a crackhead going through withdrawls.

My little trick i use to save my self from a wheelie is not to do them at all.

I had my foot hovering over the brake like I normally do in city traffic...I guess that carried over into the empty parking lot and I didn't think of setting my foot back on the peg. When the bike came up, my foot went the other direction as I was trying to equalize the weight.

No matter. That was the first and last time.

If you're doing first gear wheelies you dont really need to cover the brake. If you close the throttle the engine braking is strong enough to get you back down unless you're passed the balance point then you can give it a little tap. You should never slam your front or rear brake no matter what.

yeah...covering the brake has become a bit of a habit from all the city riding...

normally, i don't "slam" anything, but it was my first (and only) wheelie so when the bike was coming up, my natural tendency was to lean my body forward ( i know, i know) and that caused my foot to go down on the rear brake like a thirsty ****.

actually its always a good idea to cover the rear brake no matter what gear you're doing your wheelie in. Better to slam down hard than to loop it

eh...

even though i like watching other people "stunt" and am impressed as hell with their talent/skill, i'm not really into doing it myself.

guess i'm at that age where i don't get up like i used to after a fall. i'm even starting to make that "old" noise...you know the "uggggghhhh" when you get up from/sit down on a chair or just move in general? that's me.

just wanted to give it a try one time so i can say i at least tried it. i'm more into making nice turns and taking good lines. or at least trying.

to each his own, yeah?

your just at the age where laziness is kicking in. haha. I'm into stunting but lately havent been riding my bike too often. Maybe like once a week for only 15-30min. The heat has made me way too lazy

i know how you feel.

stunting was 'cool' back in the day, but now i realise other drivers suck here, and i dont need to increase my risk of death by being less than smart on public roads.

Not everyone is interested in showing off. If wheelies actually served a purpose besides making the rider feel cool, it might be a different story.

I don't even wheelie on my dirtbike. Why? It's not because I can't I'll tell you that, it's because I see no reason to, it doesn't make me any faster so I don't care.

The only purpose I see in being able to wheelie on command is to get over an object.

In the MSF course they make you learn to shift your weight back to ride over a 2x4; but what if it was a larger object or a pot hole that you just couldn't swerve around?

Ah, never mind. I guess that's where scanning ahead and speed control come in.
