Default 2000 accord do i need to replace the tranny?

well not me but a friend of mine has a ccrod automatic and he told me that when ever it goes from 1st to 2nd it jerks really bad like it slipping. I told him the tranny is going bad. Is that true? dose have to replace it or can they just fix it? Thanks for the input.
