Default Oh where, oh where is my VTEC?

Hey,
So I just got a 2000 GSR yesterday (well actually 2 days ago if you want to get dumb about it being past midnight). Anyways, Ive driven RSX-S's, Si's, Preludes, S2000's, etc., and all of those cars you can feel, and hear VTEC engauge. On my GSR its like you really have to be listening for it. Its not like a "oh my God, there is VTEC."
I thought back to all those other cars that Ive driven, with the exception of one RSX-S, all those cars had been modified. Is it really an intake and exhaust that will get me the VTEC that Im so use to? Or is there something wrong with my VTEC? I had a dealership check out the VTEC system before I bought the car (among other things), and being a dealership, if there was even the slightest thing wrong with it, they would let me know so that they could rape me for my money. They said it was working just fine.
What do you guys think? Was I just spoiled with other VTEC systems?

Slap on an intake and you will be able to hear it. An exhaust will just amplify the result. You praise VTEC so much. Do you even know what the acronym stands for?

You are right, I have no idea what Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control is. *sarcasm*
I had i-VTEC in my 01 civic with the K20A2 that I had in there, I just thought that it was going to be basically the same kind of kick, and audible difference.

GSR engines do have a more quiet VTEC switchover due to Variable Volume Intake Sistem. GSR manifold does make the sound more quiet. As the boys said, buy an Cold air intake and you will see the difference immediately.

Buddy of mine has a 2000 GSR and with a cold air intake, trust me, VTEC is VERY noticeable to the ears. What's with the smart-***-ism ? Pretty simple question ....

As long as the car is actually hitting vtec (warmed up, enough oil, etc) then yes you should be able to hear it with just an intake very easily. My GSR sounded like a race car last year when I had my fully built all motor setup, vtec was very loud. I also have a Skunk2 IM though

get an intake...and you'll hear vtec...or if you want, just take off the top lid of your stock air box.....take it up, and you'll hear it...get a skunk2 IM and a itr intake, header, exhauast, cams, and you'll DEFINATELY HEAR and FEEL IT!

Thats not vtec, that is your secondaries opening on your intake manifold. Like it has been said before, the gsr does not get loud with vtec like other single stage manifold equipped cars.

Thanks guys for the more helpful answers. I really appreciate it.
In the future I would like to turbo my car, but the single stage IM sounds like a good idea as well. You guys think that a Skunk2 IM would be good for a turbo? Im in cali, so the turbo is going to be a GReddy, not pushing too much.

Exactly. The actual vtec crossover on the gsr is 4,400 rpms. The kick you'll hear on the gsr is usually around 5,800 rpms, which is the secondary runners opening in the Intake Manifold. On my gsr, bone stock it wasn't very noticable, after I got an intake, it was very noticable once it hit 5,800 rpms. I don't think with the stock intake manifold that you'll really hear a difference at the actual vtec crossover of 4,400, even with an intake.

I just did what one member suggested, and took the top cover off of the stock air box. Basically a free, janky SRI. It was exactly what I was looking for. There is a bit of a kick at 5800rpm, and the noise is music to my ears.
Thanks for the help guys. But I am still interested on what you guys think of a Skunk2 IM for a FI setup.

ya skunk 2 manifold would be better flow for turbo. but it won't make any difference unless you get an bored out throttle body too.

hit vtec with skunk 2 IM and 70mm tb, now that's some sexy vtech!!!! haha added H for ricerism :-D

don't you mean 5700rpms. with 7500 rpm vtec i might have to rev to 11000.
