Default is it possible....y8 intake mani on zc?

Is it possible to put the USDM d16y8 intake manifold onto the JDM d16 ZC motor which is in an 89 crx hf?
I've heard most d-series parts are interchangeable. I've also heard that the y8 intake mani flows better than most d-series intake manifolds, not to mention it's bigger than my hf intake manifold which is always a plus.

SO is it possible? If so how much trouble would it be? What gaskets would I need? which sensors would I need to make sure are on the manifold to be california street legal? Anything else you can think of?

If not possible...are aftermarket intake manifolds worth th crazy prices? Which brand or brands seem to be the better choice(s)? Or should I just try and get a crx si intake manifold? and then again what gaskets and all that other great info i would need for the intake swap?

yea I think i read that some place too only thing is mine is a sohc ZC not the dohc.

so sohc zc with d16y8 intake manifold would it work in an 89 crx hf?

No the Y8 manifold won't work on the DOHC ZC. Yes it will work on a sohc ZC. You will also have to use a obd1 throttle body with it as well.

why would I need a throrle body with obd1 sensors if the ecu and engine are both from the 88-91 which is odb0 as far as I know?

Because, the obd0 throttle body doesn't bolt on to a Y8 or 92+ intake manifold. If you use the y8 intake manifold you need to use a obd1 or obd2 throttle body.

ohhhh

what about using a b18 throtle body? I think I've heard that some people use that on there d-series intake manifolds.
Does it really help that much or is it more for bragging rights?
and which b18 throtle body would I want if it really does help out?

Some b-series throttle bodies will work. I really don't think it would be worth it unless you had head work done, cam, intake, headers, ect. I think you would lose a lot of your lowend power and really probably not make up for it on the top end. If you really want to do it search on the eg forum. I think most obd1 throttle bodies will work with the exception of the US GSR one.

lookin through ebay I found someone has for sale a complete d16y8 intake manifold with sensors, hoses, injectors and fuel rail, and throtle body.

so far the bidding is 61 bucks seems cheap to me. And I really do need to get something better than this stupid hf intake manifold I have.

Ok as far as i know the 88-91 crx's have a resistor box for their injectors. If i went with the d16y8 intake manifold onto a sohc zc engine running the pm6 ecu can I leave this resistor box on or should I remove it?

what other things would I need to do or get or modify in order to make this fit?

Also would it be california legal? the intake manifold will be obd2 but as stated before the engine and ecu and car for that matter are obd0. will not having some of the sensor's hooked up cause the manifold not to function properly?

umm yea so far that's all teh guestions I can think of. Thanks for your help, I'm just new to the engine modifiying and stuff.

if you cant find a y8 manifold...get a z6 manifold. its just as good if not better.

if you use the stock 88-91 peak and hold injectors, then use the resistor box.

if you go with saturated, 88+ civic, injectors then you wont need the resistor box and will have to modify the wiring.

the manifold doesnt "function"...its just cast aluminum. you will have all the sensors connected. it will run the same just have a better flowing manifold on it. i wouldnt think that it would be illegal, but i have no idea being from ny.

thanks alot your site there helped alot.

I'm going to go for this 2000 d16y8 intake mani on ebay.

it says it's complete and it has the throtle body. for now I'm not going to be changing throtle bodies since this one will be alot bigger than my crappy tb I got for teh hf.

I don't know if it's an automatic intake mni or manuel so that will be the surprise I guess.

assuming it's for the automatic how would I go about making my eavc?!?! plug work on the eavc sensor thingy(2 wires to 3 wries or whatever it is)...or is it iavc...damn guess I need to read the write up again LOL.

how would I go about calibrating the TPS for my motor?

You where talking about the throtle cable being at weird angels was that just because you put the b18 tb on? or will I face that same problem?

umm yeah here's another bunch of guestions for you. ....thanks alot for helping me out.

ohh what kinda tools besides the usual do I need? or will the usual sockets/wrenchs and screw driver's work?

A Y8 manifold is not legal in CA. The maifold needs to match the ecu and the engine. Our smog laws are stupid and don't make sense.

guess i better get reffed before I install it.

would an crx si intake manifold be legal?
I mean it is a jdm sohc zc so I'm guessing that's the japanese crx si engine right?

99-00 is different than the 96-98. 99-00 has air injection crap that will need to be plugged.

dont bother getting it if it is from an auto. the auto manifold takes too much work to get it to work with the 2 wire iacv/eacv (they are basically the same thing). the auto manifold is better suited as an upgrade for a d16y7.

or probe the red and green wires, and if the fully open reading is correct then the closed reading can be adjusted with the throttle stop screw. or take the tps off and but hex head bolts in so the you can adjust it.

i believe so...i think some of it had to do with the throttle cable bracket.

that sucks...how the hell do they know if you swapped it or not?

well I got the intkae manifold anyways....it's not cheating unles you get caught right?

I'll try and get it reffed before I install it and stuff. I don't think the smog place will care. and most hwy patrol people I don't think will care either.

Lets assume it is from an automatic, exactly would would I need to do?

ohh what is the best idle when the engine is warm? 500-750? and whats the best way to tweak the idle? through the tps? or just adjusting th throtle cable?

To be 100% legal with the jdm sohc zc you NEED to run the stock a6 intake manifold. They check it against the hood sticker at the smog shops and the REF checks it against manuals. But you don't even have to get it REF'd unless you put the sohc zc in another model other than the SI, which you did. I really wouldn't even bother taking it to the REF though. When you go to smog just tell them that you got the hood from a junk yard and it's off another model. Most places won't care. Just repeat the phase to the smog shop, "it's the japanese equilivant of the stock motor."

It depends what you mean as the best idle. Stock idle is 750 +/- 50 rpms. but for smog tests you want it as close to 1000 as possible. The car will run cleaner at a higher rpm. You adjust the idle by turning the idle adjustment screw. Don't mess with the throttle cable.
