Thread/writeup on making black rotas look dull(not glossy)????
I was thinking maybe sanding down the surface with a high grit sandpaper. I remember seing somebody selling some looking like that, and said he painted them. Anybody know how to??
Spraying them with black primer would be the quickest/easiest way. However, other than trying to pass them off as Spoons (
), there really isn't any reason to ruin a perfectly good finish unless they're in poor condition.

just wet sand them down with 1,000 grit sand paper and be done with this... if you spray it with flat back, if you rub it a couple of times the flat black becomes semi flat black...
try it and you will see. so if you really need to have the spoon look sand it down with sand paper. it wont look spooney but it will be duller .

or maybe if you can try getting them powder coated. i think this way would last the longest and look the best.
Powder coat seems good idea. But won't seem/look like spoons. Spoons are a real flat black dull surface. Don't want my wheels to look beaded/blasted, but flat and dull. I think sandpaper i'll try

Someone had pics up a long time ago, they painted them with "BBQ black" and it looked very dry and unfinished.

nope rota's have bling to the color.

thats odd. maybe they changed them. I had one of the first sets from machiii.net a few years back. they were shiney like a muthafucka.
don't really matter since its a gay *** wheel.

When you compare them to real Spoons, the Rota's could be considered glossy, as the real Spoons have an "ashy" appearance

waste of time to sand them... just make sure they are clean and free of grease and oil then get a can of krylon ultra-flat black spray paint. Spray them on and in about 10 mins, they are dry to the touch. I did mine when i had slips and never had a problem with them flaking or chipping, and looks a hell of a lot better than the semi glossy color that they come with.
