Where does this part go?
Well, my car hasnt been starting lately, esp. in the heat, and i found out it was common for the Main Relay assembly (supposedly under the driver's side dash) to wear out after a while and cause the car not to start when it gets hot. So i got a new relay, it says "Relay ***'y, Main" on it, part number RZ-0139, made by a company called Mitsuba. I can't find where under the dash on the driver's side this thing goes. It looks like a box, maybe 2"x1"x1", with a plug thing where a wiring harness goes in and a metal strip about an inch wide and 2 or 3 long on the back that says RH and LH on it, supposedly this is the ground. Anybody know how i replace this part?
i have the same problem with my relay, how much did you get your new one for im lookin at replacing mine, cause it will b ea longer summer if my car acts up.
I had this exact same problem with my prelude acting up in hot weather.
Open up the relay module and you will see that it is simply made up from 2 Single Pole/ Single throw (SPST) Relays, 3 diodes and 1 resistor.
One of the relays supplies power to the ECU and injectors and the other switches the fuel pump.
It is usually the fuel pump relay that sticks when the weather is hot. To make sure, check for power to the ECU when the car starts to play up.
You can do what I did and go to your local electronics store and purchase a 12 volt SPST automotive relay (for a few dollars). Simply tape it to the side of the module and run flying leads inside the module for the relay coil +, coil -, Common and NormallyOpen contacts.
With basic electronic knowledge, you can figure out the corresponding fuel pump relay contacts and work out what goes where. Just wire the new relay in parallel with the faulty one, it wont cause any problems
The module pinouts are as follows:
pin #1 12 supply
pin #2 Ground
pin #3 ECU power (A25,B1)
pin #5 Switched Ignition +12v
pin #6 Starter switch
pin #7 Fuel pump
pin #8 To ECU (A7,A8) **
** This is the control line that the ECU pulls LOW when it wants the fuel pump to operate.
Pin ordering: (module connector facing you) X - not used/no pin
8 6 X 2
7 5 3 1
Hope this helps!

its way up under the dash.
its attached to something, so what most people do is unplug the old one, leave it there, plug in the new one, and tuck it up somewhere lol
