92 honda civic motor
Hi
I need to replace my 92 honda civic sedan dx motor. the car has about 175,000 and the mechanic quoted me around $2000 (parts and labor). Is this a fair price? Is it worth it for a 92 Honda Civic?
Thanks
Dom

That price seems quite high when you factor in about $500-800 for a D series motor that people on most boards, including this one, will sell to you generally lower around $300-500. The average price to obtain a compatible motor would be around the $400-500 range from my experience.
And when you factor in labor, it shouldn't cost more than $300-600 for them to just replace the engine. I would go and check out other reputable places and get quotes; after doing so, ask them if they can offer you a more competitive price. If they don't, I'm sure you will find another mechanic or shop that is ready and willing to take on the work for a more reasonable price. HTH
