D16Y8 or B18B1 Swap
Hi, I have a 98 Civic CX. The stock D16Y7 that is currently in the car doesn't have nearly enough power. I am trying to decide whether to swap a D16Y8 or a B18B1 engine into the CX. The things that i am looking for are the difficulty of swapping the engine, the price, and the output power. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Thomas

I would definitely do the B18B1 swap over the D series for many reasons. The first being more usable power over the entire powerband. You will notice more torque from the increased displacement as well as the engine breathing better due to the upgrade to DOHC. On top of this, the B18B1 will have more potential in terms of N/A tuning or the more common forced induction approach that most people choose. The motor swap should be straightforward as it will bolt straight to your chassis like your current motor. You may need an extra mount, but you can research that on here. Just make sure to get a motor of the same year or newer and stick with OBD-1 because that will make wiring a lot easier for you; it will also keep things good with Johny Law aka popos.
Thanks for all the info and for the fast responce. Im gonna go with the B18B1 as soon as i can find one with low mileage.
Thanks again, Thomas

I'd go with the B18B, as I just made the same choice. The engine should be up and running with a week, can't wait. There are a few minor wiring mods needed, all of which can be found in Katman's EK wiring guide on here. Also, you'll need a 99 SI rear mount, as well as a different upper engine mount. Also make sure to get a COMPLETE swap. I got mine from SOHfast.com, and it came with absolutely everything.
