Default atp exhaust housing question

EDIT: New question... (Assuming that the atp housing is ford) Is the ford t3 exhaust housing the same shape/design as a garett unit or will I need to get a new downpipe made?

This is from the atp "drop in" T3 flanged gt28rs. They modified it from t25/internal wg to t3/external wg.

Here is the t25 one from garret:

Here is the atp ex. housing. My Question is; if it is setup for external wastegate, what is the smaller hole for?

the smaller hole gets covered by the downpipe flange

I figured that much... but whats the point of it being there other than disrupting flow to the turbine and causing a possible exhaust leak? I was going to weld it shut but wasn't sure if it had some purpose.

If you're utilizing an external gate then the hole is useless, and is blocked by the DP flange. ATP probably retained the hole from the Ford T3 style housing to cut down on tooling costs, just in case someone needed an exhaust housing w/ the internal flapper valve.

Is the ford t3 housing the same design as a garett t3 housing considering they are both 5 bolt or will I need to get a new downpipe made.
