Default Oiling Comptech filter

Being in Australia I can't get the Uni foam filter oil that Comptech sell for their filters. I've had various suggestions and I'm hoping someone on this board can vouch for any of them:
1) Use K&N filter oil instead
2) Use oil for foam motorcycle filters

Anyone had experience using anything but the Comptech filter oil?

TIA

I know this might sound crazy but when I first got my Comptech Icebox and foam fliter from them, they forgot to send the filter oil with it. So I called up Comptech only to find out that this company called UNI actually manufactures the filter and the filter oil. They said they would send me the oil but in the meantime, I could just put a thin (I empasize THIN) coat of regular motor oil on the filter. So I got my oil pan, put just enough oil so that the whole pan was covered with a thin layer, and I rolled the filter in there. Worked like a charm.

I talked to Comptech and they said that using K&N oil is fine. Did you know the K&N OIL is just mineral oil with red dye< and the cleaner is just laundry detergeant with lots of water>

Got this from the K&N website:
K&N air filter oil is a compound of mineral oil blended with special polymers to form a very efficient tack barrier. Red dye is added to show just where you have applied the oil. Eventually the red color will fade but the oil will remain and filter the air.

Yeah it looks like K&N filter oil will do, as will any other brand. I may be able to get Uni or Finer (an Australian brand) at some stores near my house. All good news.

I've tried it, doesn't work all that well, and it's a pain in the but to do correctly. I did it in a last ditch effort as I couldn't find the cleaner or the oil when the filter really needed cleaning. I've used Simple Green when cleaning the filter before, but the actual UNI Filter cleaner works much better, and the UNI Filter oil is considerably easier, and cleaner than using the motor oil trick, only use that as a last ditch effort.

Using oil for the motorcycle foam filters would be fine too - that is all the Uni stuff is really.

[edit] I meant to say "foam filter cleaners". you obviously can't use the motorcycle filters...

I presume this will be easily available, less expensive and can be found in Pep Boys? What about the cleaner? Any tips? Thanks.

I have only used it once. I'll check when I get home tonight. I am sure it still mostly full. I will add $$$ to make up the difference.
