If you're talking about the Cobra Exclusive! Strobe Alert™
A Cobra exclusive, works with tens of thousands of emergency vehicles currently equipped with traffic light controlling strobe emitters. Provides advanced alert of the presence and/or approach of these vehicles.
it does not tell you when an emergency vehicle is near. When an emergency vehicle is near you with it's emergency lights on and only when equipped with the strobes that control the traffic lights to let it through, the detector will give you a warning. That's it.

You guys have seriously never heard of these?
Ive got the Cobra 9200, got it for 60 bucks, saved me out of countless speeding tickets and numerous times when my car would have been impounded

What, radar detectors, or cop detectors? Your telling me that a low-end radar detector alerts you to the presence of police when not using radar?
Not to be a ***** or anything, but if you look at the other thread that I've linked to you'll see I've done quite a bit of research on the subject, and have yet to come onto a 'cop detector'. Mobile scanner with alarm, yes, but even then, it's not 100%.

ok again...
the strobe alert only tells you when an approching emergency vehical is comming when they use the infared control they have to turn RED lights to GREEN. That's it.
You can actually buy those units yourself, but they run $400~$500. Not all traffic lights have these, only typically in more crowded areas. You can tell by looking between the two lights. If you see a white reflector thing about 3 or so inchs in diameter, then that light has one. If the emergency vehical isn't using one, then the detector WILL NOT "find" that vehicel. Anyhow, most of the time you'll only be picking up fire trucks or something like that.

No, no you won't. Unless they're using radar, that is.

Those systems, the mirt system, have to be activated by the driver of the vehicle to activate the light be it a police vehicle or ambulance. This basically means that if the cop isn't going through the lights, you will never know if he is there. So if you don't want to get a ticket buy a scanner that can detect extender frequencies, good one is made by uniden. It detects the frequency that goes between the radio the officer wears and the radio in the trunk of his car.
I use that radar. That **** sucks ***! Bugged the hell out of me on my road trip and yes, I got two tickets with it!! eRR~!@!@! Never Accurate.
