Default government auction...what do you guys think?

I want to buy a second car for my fiance. I am shopping around with a little over or about $2000. I want something reliable, but i have my own car, so I guess i can face some sort of risk.
I wanted to know what are your opinions on the government autions. Is it worth it to join this auction for $40?

Should i try to search for a different auction, beacuse they are better than government auctions?

or should i just stay away from auctions?

i got a 96 ex 5-speed w/ leather for 2500 at an auction , only problems was minor cosmetic flaws (minor dings in rear bumper) and the interior was in excellent condition w/ 120k miles. i got very lucky though, i had an 89 lx-i from an auction and it had warped calipers and a leak in one of the vacuum lines and leaked oil bad. you're taking a risk, but if you get lucky like i did its worth it.

there is a guy around the way from where i live who lives and dies by these car auctions, he goes to them, and will sometimes come home with two or three decent japanese cars, like a maxima, accord and a civic, you get the idea, well, he buys them for similar deals to our friend in the fiirst reply and sells them and rarely has any problems getting rid of them sometimes for twice what he paid, its a matter of knowing someone you can trust when you go to the auction, the man can tell you about flaws in cars that you might never catch...belive it or not, a lot of the older cars we see on places like ebay usually come from auctions, and so again, cant be all that bad right?

oh by the way, try and find a local auction if possible, believe it or not, there is a lesser chance you'll get screwed!

There are alot of childish people in general discussion. I find that the people in Accord form are more mature and will give a better and more logical response.
