Yeah, JDM is both original equipment Japanese Domestic Market, as well as their home aftermarket- companies like Spoon Sports, JUN, Tien, Endless, etc. etc.
Yes, I've heard of Top Fuel, and I've seen the MR Del Sol. Pretty sweet. However, with the exception of the R cars, and some of the EG SiRII's, you don't have many Honda tuners. Not to say that they aren't in good #'s, but over there, there are so many better things to choose from that they don't mess with them. Seriously, why would you buy an Accord when you can still buy a Galant VR4 and SuperVR4 with 276 horses stock? You can get a Silvia (240Sx) with the SR20DET. To be honest, it is like two different cultures. They are big into FR and AWD cars, and drifting is extremely popular. Where as here, everybody and their grandma drives a Civic (these days it's a damn hybrid Civic), and we tend to like to drag and go to the track. The drift scene in the U.S. is very small- almost non-existant. In Japan, with the exeption of the R's, Civics are grandma cars. Like the Corolla in the US has become. It's two different cultures. Here, we have parts for the Civic a dime a dozen, and there, believe it or not, the AE86 Corolla GTS has more parts. (Hachiroku- Sprinter/Trueno GT Apex.)
Anyone seriously into JDM should check out this link. It's a really great site (In English) made by a guy who spent a considerable amount of time drifting in Japan with a team called Running Free. http://www.davescholz.com
