hm, well.. i don't know if this is right forum to write..

anyways, my ground control+OEM shocks will be replaced soon,
i've been reading and searching for suspension stories.. but still can't come
up with what i should go for..
i'm not looking for spend too much money (maybe around $1000)

don't just recommend something, just because they're popular...
i'm looking for daily drive purpose, so if anyone out there have good advise, help me out~!

here are some of my choices after looking around

1. Omni-Power(?) Full Coilovers
2. Koni yellow w/Ground control set up
3. Tein Basic Full Coilovers(w/o upper mount)
4. Hayame Full Coilovers
5. H&R Full Coilovers(w/o upper mount)

any other recommed?

 

most people are prolly gonna tell you to search and then say gc and konis!

but i myself have the tein ss's on my hatch with civic rates and i love them for daily usage!!!

im sure you can get them even cheaper , there a nice set up for daily driven . an from time to time track days. if you would spend a bit more i would go for the Tein's RA (if you plan to track the car) and to spend a bit more then 1k , just a though .

 

from reading your post you never mentioned anything about handling so im gonna assume you'll be driving slower than most ******** out there, including me.

i would recommend pro-kits for a subtle drop and either tokico hp or illuminas to dampen them.

if you want something alittle more aggressive any good coilover or sleeve over rated around 450lb for the front and 350lb-380lb for the rear. dampers use koni yellow or tokico illumina. with higher spring rates the ride will be bumpy. and if you use crappy dampers the ride will be bouncy.

 

suspensions are like girls....everyone has a different taste.

SO, thats why it's a good thing to piece it all together and not buy an "off the shelf" suspension setup like most people.

This is the good thing about going the GC/Koni route. Get revalved Koni's (Truchoice) and you already have a better damper than any Tein/Apex/Tanabe coilover could ever dream of, plus you have the option for ANY spring rate combo you want.

Pick your spring rate and have a heigh adjustable/damper adjustable setup good for any street use and track use...

Ok im running pro-kit and tokicos blues. Anyways it was a slight drop but for daily driving its great for me.

 

i daily drove on tein ss for 6 months ... thought they were ok on the streets. last week i switched to yellows/gcs with stiffer springs, and it's waaay better (more comfortable, more handling) than the teins. now if i were to put the ss back on i would think they are some of the crappiest shocks you can buy - which they are. i can't believe how many people swear by tein when they suck so bad. avoid the ss or basics at all costs. don't even think about going to autox with them (i've been there )

what emerika said is dead on. if you buy one of those 'full' coilover bling setups, you're stuck with that. so if they suck (too soft/stiff), you're screwed. with a strut/spring combo, you're in control, and have the flexibility to change things as required by your needs and personal taste.

for daily driving and no track, i'd get some koni reds, ground control coilovers with either the default springs, or somewhere in the ballpark of 400F/350R. even if the springs aren't right at first, you're free to buy another pair, and sell your old one whenever you need to. and if you can afford it, the yellow/gc combo owns.

i knew GC+Koni set up would be best recommend.. but right now, i have GC on mine, and i've been driving with it for about 4 years now, and the it's kinda rusted out and bolts get stucked , so i don't know if i want to reuse them with new shocks...

anyways, it's funny how everybody was saying Tein Tein Tein when talk about suspension like while ago... and now a lot of people start complaining....

There is some coilover kit called SearchPower. They're made by Search Engineers out of Cali. Top knotch stuff. They come with struts/shocks out of Top Secret Search which resides in Japan. Great spring rates! Might want to get a Camber Search Kit because sometimes the tire tilts a little inward. All in all, Search is awesome.

not too stiff and definitely not bouncy.. and thats also with an h22 in it! i am not really to into auto xing just my daily grinder that will scoot if i want!!

gcs for oem shocks won't work with most aftermarket ones anyway. there's a few that do, but i foget what they are, and they're not very popular anyway. i know if you get konis, bilstiens, tokickos, and kybs you need to get the gcs specific for them.

On my 97 Coupe I rock Skunk2/Tokico Illuminas that works great no matter what my mood is. I heard about that rust thing, fortunitely I haven't that problem. It is nice to have adjustable Height and Damping

 

Tein SS work for me!!! on low settings they are hella soft. on higher settings (i.e. 12) they are stiff and handle great. but still bearable on streets and can take the bumps and potholes.
