Auto Insurance Cost in Illinois- Recommendations or comparisons
I have just donated my daily driver, 89 Acura Legend to the Salvation army and its time to renew my insurance- this time with only one car, with the R as my daily driver. I have All State insurance, and my rates went up from 500+/6 moths (Full coverage on the R + liability on the Acura Legend) to about 750+/6 months for full coverage on the Type R alone.
All I can say its, WTF??!! This is only an integra, a honda- not a porsche!! I am 28, no tickets in last 5 years or more, have a garage and live in the burbs. Does anyone in this area have better deals on Insurance? I may not be able to afford full coverage (or i should say i am too pissed to pay that rate) on my car anymore; thats 1500/yr on insurance for a car that barely sits 4 and not super expensive to begin with.
Anyone?

I have been quoted $16,000 a year from Geico and allstate.
Yes that is 16k a year!
But I beat them and got it insured and my beater in NJ for 3700.
Oh the point of the story, shop around

I can almost imagine what Progressive is going to tell me when my policy comes up for renewal in a couple months!

i've tried to add 2nd cars to my policy as liability only...and no matter who i've tried..statefarm...progressive...they all turn out to be more.
i cant figure out how you guys get a less insurance rate for having 2 cars opposed to one

I totally believe it. I'm working on lowering my policy by putting the Camry on as my main driver, w/liability only and putting the Integra on as a secondary car w/full coverage during the warm months and storage coverage in the winter. It's less than the Integra alone. I really hate this car sometimes, insurance on my 95 GSR is higher than my younger sister's brand new 03 Accord EX V6 coupe!!! And my driving record is flawless, so go figure!

so shop around.. it's not unusual to have high rates with an R, because there's a good chance it'll get stolen..

Indeed.
In addition to trying your local State Farm agent, here are two websites that offer comparisons on rates from multiple companies:
http://www.insweb.com
http://www.insure.com
Also, all companies are not the same. Particularly when it comes to satisfaction on claims, and remember, the whole reason you get insurance is in case you have a claim. You can see ratings of various auto insurance companies on the J.D. Powers website here. (They liked USAA and Amica Mutual the best.)
