Default Is a compression test on a motor 100% way to know if you have internal damage?

Is there any possiblity that there is something else wrong with the engine even if you are getting good numbers throughout?

the bottom 2 rings or ringlands could be damaged and not show up on a comp test. Pretty much anything below the top ring could be in trouble, main bearings, rod bearings whatever...

so the only way to know what is wrong internally besides the comp test would be to open it up correct?
