Default Shifting question.

Just talking to my friend about shifting and looking for some answer. If u r rolling let say 60km/h on 4th gear and want to shift down to 2nd to accelerate. Is that ok to go from 4th right to 2nd or 4th-3rd-2nd? of course it will be alot faster to skip to 3rd but is that going to damage anything?
