KOFOD! what's up with these hood pins?!?!
yes... i apparently forgot to check the hood pins on the racecar today before i took it out for a test drive before road atlanta next weekend... (car has current inspection and insurance for street use)

hood doesn't fit quite right now... doh

i'm still picking glass off of me

the hood smacked the roof so hard it busted my H emblem off! at least the ferrari decal is still there!

so much for a dent free racecar! i've been hanging around chad too much

damn, men!
that stinks!
makes a good case for keeping the stock latch on top of having the hood pins....
thats a lot of damage from a flying hood, too. new hood, new windshield, repair of the roof....
good luck getting it ready to go for the race...
todd
ps hope it ran well during the test!!

Mine happened a couple years back at a test day at CMP. Richman and Starnes were there actually and helped me bend the hood back straight enough to get the hood pins back in. I found a glass shop the next town over and drove over there (busted windshield and all) in the race car. They replaced the window while I ate lunch. I was on track about 2 hours after it happened. I never did fix the roof though as the cage is in the way of me hammering it back out. See you at the track Hunter.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My nightmares are coming back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hunter,
Glad you are ok, and at least it happened on a test drive and not at the track like it did to me (no glass shops open on Sundays).
I somehow got a glass splinter in my foot last Sunday. Somehow got through the nomex shoe, into my sock and in the side of my foot. The impact was so hard it ripped my wide angle lense loose from the threading on my camcorder.
I am putting a reminder on the steering wheel that contains some other vital info along with "CHECK YER' HOOD PINS".
See ya at RA in a week !
Regards,
Jon

I'm liking the ghosted honda symbol
Goes with the Not a Step quality stenciling
I remember when I first saw pics of that on your hood, I got such a kick out of it. Its so much fun to see people not taking themselves so seriously and enjoying their time with their track car.

My ITA car has hood pins (of course) but it doesn't have the "safety latch" and after a conversation at the track about this very thing I think I'm going to install the stock safety latch.

Even with the pins fastned id not suggest running them like that.
I used to work at a shop with a 630whp turbo civic. It had a cf hood and the latches installed like that. With solid mounts and the pins installed like that it ended up having the hood come up at 140 and doing the same to the car along with smashing the sunroof out and creaming the roof.
The car ran fine it was fastned, just at high speed with a cf hood and the vibration i guess they came unfastned and with the pin angled like that the only place it has to go is directly back, which conviently is the direction to unfasten the pin. Now the car has pins installed the opposite direction, and uses the stock rubber adjuster bumpstops to keep them tight.
I feel your pain, its hard to remember those silly things alot of the time unless you see or have one fly up at 140 and know what it feels like. Pardon my french but **** that, that was no fun. I wasnt even in the car when the **** came up, i was directly behind it and it looked like somthing out of a movie when the glass dust went everywhere like a small cloud.

You have both pins facing the same direction, within the longitudinal axis of the car...so, if a condition is created for one to slip loose (such as hard braking/impact), both will come loose! If you turned them in the latitudinal axis (side to side) and had one pin facing in either direction, they wouldn't be as likely to both come loose at once.

not totally, they were left out of the holes through the studs
either way, hood pins have a circular clip or snap ring that encircles the stud... no g-force from braking or turning is going to break the ring around the stud.
It has to be lifted up with a force greater than any honda will ever be able to create due to wind resistance or some lateral/braking force
