I blew a head gasket and had a Y8 p&p head sitting at home so I decided to put it on. Well it runs but there are a couple of things that don't feel right. Oh and V-tec is not hooked up right now either.

1) It feels like it's lagging especially after a certain RPM. (about 4500-5000) I was racing an integra and couldn't even get it to red line 4th....just stayed at about 6k

2) While at idle it will be fine one min the the next it will rev to about 2500-3k....what would cause this?

3) I went ahead while I was at it and baught a adjustable cam gear. Am I suppose to retard or advance the timing any?

 

retard your cam 3-5 degrees. reset base timing.

hook up VTEC

 

well you got no power after 5k cause of no vtec duh...your winding the promarie lobes out and sounds like your camgear is advanced...i say retard it about 2.
