B16 Swapped EF Hatch 1/4 times?
I know you guys probably hate these questions. I own an MR2 and am an active poster on the MR2 forum and I hate when I see these questions. I would like to know what an 88-91 hatch will run with a stock B16. Not lightened or anything. The reason I ask is because my friend keeps losing to this guys 89 CRX si with I/H/E and a clutch. He ran a 15.2 best 1/4. He pulls pretty hard on my friends swapped hatch. We are trying to figure out if his motor is running right or not. I was figuring that the swapped hatch would come out on top but even from a roll on and a race from 2nd gear on he still loses.
I was planning on getting an EF and swapping in a B16 but if this is all that the car can pull off I may save more money and get an H22 swapped EG. Thanks in advance for your help.

My ef with a sohc vtec ran 14.7. It probably is a tired motor, I don't trust swapping in a 10-12 year old motor. Is the compression good? I've seen ef's with b16s with just basic bolt on run anywhere from 14.3 to mid 15s. Is there a check engine light? What ecu is he running?
Ok thanks guys. I figured it should be at least in the 14s. His motor doesnt look very good and Im guessing that it probably isnt running very good. The person he bought it from swapped it wrong and I think it may have some damage to it. Havent done a compression test to it yet. I think it may be a good idea to just get a newer B16 and use the old one for parts. We go to the races every weekend so it would be nice to have his car running better.
I dyno'd 151 HP at the wheels and had a best run of 14.80 on street tires, crappy mounts, and a HEAVY car..

I have a b16a in a 91 Si, it is the older motor and it runs strong. I have beaten all kinds of gsr, so I guess that means I run alittle quicker then what ever it is that they run. When I went to the track last I pull a 15.2, but I lost my shift **** shifting to third and missed it for a sec, also got alot of whell spin off the line. I hven't been back to the track but I expect.....hope, I can pull into the 14's.
