Popped a fuse big time.......need some help
Ok,
this isnt stereo related, but you guys are the electical guru's round here, so help me out if ya can.
Im installing a grounding kit in my civic, needless to say it just re-grounds all the stock grounds with better ones (lame, yes, i know). however I placed a ground on my negative battery terminal, to act as a main grounding for the rest. i hooked up my negative terminal and left my postive undone.
at this point just the negative is connected. well i finished adding all my new grounds and went to attach my positive terminal. it sparked pretty good, i mean alot. so i went to fire it up, nothing, no dome light, no accessory. throw the jumper pack on, nothing, wont crank. hmmmmm? check the fuses, and turns out i blew the main battery fuse underneath the hood (its an 80a i believe)
my question is this:
as a general rule, does the negative terminal ALWAYS get connected after the positive? is this the reason it popped? or should it not matter. im trying to figure out what caused it to pop. i dont wanna go buy another fuse only to have it pop on me as soon as i put it in cause i didnt do it in the right "order"
so tell me, what is hte correct order of steps when replacing this battery fuse.
newbie, i know...........point and laugh.

Neg. gets hooked up last normaly, but it should not matter .If your blowing 80 amp fuse something is wrong. do you have caps ,if yes ,they need a slow charge up. A 1 fared cap will draw 80 amps easy if hooked up direct you will be lucky if all you "popped" was the fuse. hope this helps

to blow and 80 amp fuse there is something very wrong with the way u hooked up the kit, can u snap a pic of under the hood, like where u made your connections? or i would just disconnect the kit, change the fuse and make sure the car starts stock before going any further
i gota question.. what wasy can u tell if a cap is charged? i mean i know it comes with a charger kit.. but like lets say if ur not sure if its still working or wanna see if it is still working, how would you check?

Get a Digital Multi Meter, or some other kind of volt meter, and see if it holds 12, or close to 12 volts when it is charged.

your lucky all you blew was your fuse - that's a really dangerous deal you had going there...
Good luck, and watch out near power next time!! - Take this expirence as a lesson to double check to make sure stuff isn't shorting and all connections are made before hooking stuff up - next time, a fuse might not be there to prevent mistakes.
