Update: Insurance Company and my Stolen R
Well I just got off the phone with the adjuster. He took down what i had in my car and I explained how I had custom parts, etc... He then asks me if I had customization insurance. I was like huh. He told me if i don't, i won't be covered for my extra parts. When i first signed up with my insurance company, one of my first questions was about performance mods. I was told that as long as i have a receipt, they would reimburse me. It seems like the adjuster is trying to f* me over. I told him a stock Type R with only 8650 miles is worth 24-26k. He was like thats above msrp. I tried to explain to him how rare it is, etc. He thought I was bsing and i kindly told him to be prepared for serious evidence of everything I am saying. I have printed about 3 local R's being sold privately for 22-23k, all of which are 01's with more than 40k miles. I wish I could find some dealership ones, the last time i saw a dealership one, they were selling for 27k with 14k miles and no mods. I really need that right now to prove my point. As it sits, I am to fax over receipts of my mods (over 10k worth, mostly audio/video and jdm conversion). He and I both agreed on getting this settled asap. I need it done soon as I am tired of borrowing my dad's car and I have seen a S2000 waiting with name on it.
Dang!
Make sure you don't give in and get the most you can.
If there is anything I can help with, I'll try.
Want me to list my car for $25,500 in the classifieds?

is your car stock? if i need yours is, i'll ask on monday or tues for an ad... Thanks!
My main argument with him is that I want to buy another Type R and reinstall every part that I had in it. For me to get an ITR with less than 10k miles and in mint condition will easily cost me 24-25k. Then the extras I had add up to about 12k. So I am asking them for 36k, i was nice enough to drop 1k off my price. Do you guys think this is a valid argument for me getting more money?

Good luck, but no. It's not like the parts are new that were stolen. There is that whole "depreciation" thing to consider. The fact is, you would have been LUCKY to get 22-24k for your car if you sold it. Don't expect the insurance company to pay more for it.
Good luck though, maybe you'll get lucky.

Unless your mods were written into your insurance policy, I can't see why they would cover them. 12K in mods is sure to have an affect on your monthly premium.
Good luck though

You're never going to get that much and I dont think you're going to convince him of anything.
They are NOT that rare (compared to say... a Cobra R) or some 'very' rare cars... if you go by that rationale, a 2.5 Rs (previous body style) and a 99-00 Civic Si is rare and therefore more valueable - not true.
And mods NEVER carry their value based on what you pay for them. You don't get $1 spent / $1 return.... not even close. Unless they are written in as Mike stated, and even they depreciate.

36k huh? That is quite a bit to ask of an insurance company. The fact that the car sells less then that new. you probably wont see anything over real low 20's. The one thing that people do not realize, when you mod your car your mods are not an added value.
example...JDM front end. That is oh say15-1800 non hid. then 1000 for paint and install. you can not logically take 2500 and add it to the value of the car. First off, you will never recover costs spent on labor. so thats 1000 out the window. so you got a jdm front...show insurance company a reciept for 1800, and i can garuntee you that a comperable amt can be spent buying factory oem hood, fenders, bumpers, lights etc.
Then you say sound and tv was added. again, how much was spent on labor for custom installs etc. You may have arguement to try to recover for the additonal hardware(subs amps etc) but you still have to look at the cost you that is offset by the value of stock parts.
Im not trying to bash you on your claim to your insurance, but simply give you some logical anaylasis as to better estimate the amount you will get from insurance. Basically mods/bolt ons do not normally add value. To the person modding the car, yes there is value to them, because you selled out $xxx. but to everyone else. no bid deal

If I was your insurance agent I would laugh in your face asking for 36 K. That's the price of a nice NSX. If you did in fact get the 36K it wouild be increasing all of our rates.

dont give in this is normal practice by most insurance companies and they train adjusters to mark down actual prices also. this safes the company thousands of dollars . so dont give in...
also remember they will only give you a percentage of those aftermarket parts from when you bought it up to when it was stolen.. so if you had parts on there for several years dont get upset when they give you less than half of what it costs...that you cant change.
but if you have parts that you recently bought and they want to give you less than half of the cost that is crap...
