Default 84 Accord LX help!!

I just bought an 84 Honda Accord LX 5 speed with 300,000 miles on it. The car runs very well except for when I am in either 1st or 2nd gear going anywhere from 15-25 mph....the car surges as though its not getting gas. Has anyone had this problem? I also have a loud chirping sound coming from the engine area only when I am moving. I believe it may be the speedometer cable but I dont know how to access it....any answers would be helpful??

300,000 miles is alot of miles. With that mileage, alot of components could be causing your hesitation. Is that on the engine, the body or both?

If your car is sorta hesitating when you press on the gas, first thing to do i think is a good tune-up (spark plugs and wires, air filter, pcv valve and such). Also, take a look around under the hood at all the connections and hoses to make sure everything is good.

Hesitation usually occurs in older cars and demands a trial and error method to correct it. Are you getting any CEL's??? That could be a possibility where insufficient voltage is running around in the MAP or TPS sensor circuit.

as for the chirping, i am ot sure on that one.

Thanks for your reply...I did change the plugs and wires...PCV valve on order!! You know....the surging disappeared before I did the plug change. It disappeared when I opened the gas cap and let all the air out. I think maybe there was some air in the fuel line or pump or something. Like I said, I had just bought the car and I havent even put gas in it yet, so opening the cap should have been the first thing I did.
