JDM H22a people... ignition question
I have a 95 JDM H22a, and I am looking for an ignition... would the MSD 6AL and blaster 2 be ok? Someone said that the JDM have an internal coil, so I might have a problem.... any of yooz have an aftermarket ignition?
I've heard you don't need anything more than the stock ignition for N/A applications. What's the compression ratio of the JDM H22A?
good question... I dont remember... I think like 10.4 maybe??? anyway, I dont think I am burning all of the fuel, so I wanted to try an ignition. I am running very rich. Also, I plan on going turbo in the spring, or get the JUN cam shaft kit... one or the other.
is the diameter of your CAI 2.5 inches? mine is, i think that's the problem. i'm going to find or fabricate a 3 inch intake (which is what 5G ludes use) and then measure the A/F.

Are you guys going by your AF gauge to measure richness of a five gas analyzer? Another question, are you rich all thetime or just at full throttle?
WOT richness is normal, the ECM does this to prevent lean misfires and engine failure, alsoto provide enrichment for power. The only way to determine if youare running excessivly rich is to use a four or five gas analyzer and run it through all rpm ranges. Just thought this might help you understand a little and keep ypu from making a $500 mistake.

This graph says it all. Here's my A/F as it is right now. stock motor, stock ecu, I/H/E.
.
I hope the smallish intake accounts for the extreme richness and I'll make a bit more ponies with a larger intake.

the msd 6al is fine. you dont need the external coil. i have a 93 accord with a 95 jdm h22a1 with a msd 6al ignition. the h22 has an internal coil, but you dont need the blaster 2.
We're running rich. Too much fuel.
You can smell unburned gas out the exhaust, but no back firing or flames... those are usually caused by an exhaust valve not seating and allowing the combustion to happen outside the combustion chamber.

i noticed a significant difference after i put in the ignition. the car picks up much better at lower rpm's and its not running as rich as it used to. i got hte ignition for my NOS, but i noticed it runs better even without using nos.
all of our cars tend to run rich after you add I/H/E... now i may be wrong, but what our ECUs are doing is detecting high flows of air and the ECU adjusts the fuel curve to accomodate the larger air... as a result, it over-richens the a/f mixture...

Speakin on these terms yes Prelude engines run rich. And most ludes if you look carefully have black exhausts due to the richness. However that doesnt mean you have to stay that way. I use a MSD Digital 6 with an external coil without any problems and you can use the stock one if you wanted. I am in the process of trying to lean out my car more as we speak. So far I have added a regulator to lower fuel pressure. Next step would be to get the V-Afc and see what I can do with that.
So far the problem goes unsolved though.

now that we are on the subject of ignitions, the jdm h22a uses an internal coil, which i keep getting told i wont be able to use in my 95 LX, so i can either rewire the distributor or get a usdm 93-95 vtec distributor ..anyone can shed sum light?
you can use the dist. off the jdm motor. i have a 95 jdm on my 93 accord, and didnt have to rewire anything
everything hooks up
just need to jump the end of the plug that goes to the external coil
