Stock offset on a 6.5" wide 97+ factory Prelude wheel is +55mm
For a 7" wide wheel you'll want at least +40mm. But +43 to +50mm is perferable.
For a 7.5" wide wheel you'll want at least +43mm. But +45 to +50mm is perferable.
For a 8" wide wheel, the wheel is so much wider than stock that there is little room for error. Theoretically you'll want at least +48mm. You'll need to stay in a narrow range right around +48. Any more positive offset than that and the tire will rub on the inside of the wheel well or on suspension componets. Any less positive offeset, and the wheels will protrude out from under the fender lip on the outside...

If your car is really low, 8" wide is going to be too big no matter what offset you have... I've never heard of anyone running 8" wide wheels on a 97+ Prelude to begin with...
Stick with 7" wide and around a +45mm offset to be safe.

Try http://www.geocities.com/chrislonghurst/tyre_bible.html and use Chris's Javascript tyre calculator. If you search for 'Brian Cassidy' (me) on the page you can use my original program (which Chris based the Java on) for calcing tyre and wheel overhang sizes (uses the Prelude offsets as default!).

hmmm i've had two sets of 18x8 on my 99 prelude before.
18 x 8 +42mm Racing Hart C5
18 x 8 +45mm Blitz Type 03
i havent had any problems with either set. Then again, i'm not as super-low as DOD... his is at 2".. mine's at... 1.25-1.5 inches.
but like aklucsarits had said... 18x8 is way too wide if you want a 2" drop. play it safe.. and run 18x7.5.
18x7.5... 18x8.. practically the same. no one is going to come up to you and goo.. "dangggg... those 8 inches wide huh". knw what i mean?
goood luck
