I overheard that some stock sportbike wheels have chrome under them and all you need is some aircraft stripper to get past the paint.. The 2004 Kawasaki zx-6r wheels are coated black, does anyone know if theres chrome under there?

 

There's is no chrome under the paint of any stock wheels.... By applying air craft paint thinner you strip the wheel to the bare metal, then you proceed to sand with a thousand different grits working your way up to a very very fine one and then you buff the wheels with mothers metal polish crap. Then BLING BLING.

On the new ZX6R wheels I wouldnt recommend doing the spokes unless you plan to be sanding for weeks... The spokes are rough metal and they need to be smoothed out before you can polish them

 

I might just do the lip.. I dont want to do the whole wheel, thats a long project right there..

 

the wheel lips dont take that much time at all. I did the rear lip and it only took like an hour....thats with having the wheel off already though.

 

I was planning to do the lips on mine... I dont know if the polished lips would look good on a green 636 though.
