Default Snapped starter in half *pics*

Today I finished my new fuel system and finished checking for any type of leaks, so I thought ok cool, time to start. At first it felt likt it caught on something and wouldn't turn, so I get out and look and some stuff and go back and start it again, it fires up but then BAM! saw some sparks shoot up and the car stalled. I look down in the bay and see my starter laying down on the bottom of the tranny. I have no idea how it happened or why. It turns free, maybe the starter had a stress crack in it. Here's a few shots of it.

Anything else get damaged in the process internally? Careful that anything didn't fall into the flywheel area.

Yeah and just to be safe i would pull the tranny off and make sure nothing fell down in there.

It was a clean break, nothing fell in. Just kinda shitty it happened. I turned the crank and my buddy looked at the flywheel and all the teeth were OK.

Ive seen similar things happen before.
Usually because there was only 1 bolt in the starter.

Those starters have alot of torque. I've seen a starter (only had the top bolt) yank the bolt out and bring a chunk of the tranny with it.

Indeed. Have you ever pulled a starter and crank it while holding it? Damn gear zips like there's no tomorrow.

My VW starter ripped out along with a chunk of the transmission when my trans blew up big time. Also snapped my starter like the original thread makers when I snapped my front motor mount drag racing.

Yea, everything is ok, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find another starter. All I have laying around are automatics. A new is $165 with a core! I hope something turns up.

I luckily found a starter tonight for $30. A friend of mine was parting his Teg and had it left over. It works and nothing seems to be wrong.

Have any of yall seperated the 2 halves of the starter? Its a super duper bitch to get back together. The first time I took the starter off I took the bolts that hold the starter together off and it seperated itself. Man I learned a lesson that night.-lol
