Welcome to the second round of the 2004 King Motorsports Street Mod Cup. The course and weather were dramatically different this time around, and we also had a better turn-out of SM drivers. "Tight" (the more traditional definition) is the best way to describe the course - on average it was taking 75 seconds for drivers to navigate through the pylons - all of which were used by the course designer. There were no extra cones! Personally I really liked the course. Although it didn't have great flow, it did offer drivers a little bit of everything including plenty of seat time. We also had nice warm sunny skies all day, there were a few interruptions of clouds, but everyone was treated to hot dry pavement.

In the first run of the day Phil Bedard had the fastest raw time (69.001) but collected 4 cones along the way... one of them the very same cone he collected on every other run for the day - big car, tight course, lots of horsepower. Goldsmith also collected a cone, but managed to have the fastest first run time with a 72.136 (70.136 raw). The other drivers shuffled in with times ranging from the low 73's up to the mid 90's - a good diverse group.

Will Ostrowski laid the fastest time for the second set of runs (70.852) - his fastest of the day - again in a loaner car. Will get your own car! Bedard and Goldsmith gathered up some more cones while Broker, Sheskey, and Anderson showed good improvement to round out the top 5. With 1 run still to go in the first heat, lunch had come and gone - this was going to be a long day.

The last run of the morning session yielded fastest times for 5 drivers! Goldsmith, Bedard, Sheskey, Hockerman, and Steimke wouldn't get any faster for the rest of the day and everyone else would continue to improve. This landed Sheskey with his 5th place finish, Bedard would go on to earn 3rd, and Goldsmith wrapped up his second event win with a 68.697 - fastest time for a car at the event.

The third heat would only offer drivers two more chances to improve, as the long course resulted in only 5 runs instead of the typical 6. The 4th run brought Bill Chetney and Scott McDermott their best luck with fastest times of 74.909 and 75.877, otherwise there was not much movement in the standings.

The final run was eventful as Broker nudged Bedard out of second place with a clean 70.171 - not bad for having run on "tennis ball" wheels all day. Anderson landed himself a solid 6th place finish on a cone-free diet of 73.766. Kotajarvi moved up into the top 10 with a solid 75.646. Somewhat worth mentioning, Goldsmith broke his car as some wiring from his Hondata system removed itself from a connector. This left the little white Civic with a 4000rpm limit, less than half the usual 9000rpm powerband. He rolled in with the slowest time of the class a 93.757.

See you out for event #3 in a couple of weeks!
