Well since the hf intake is soo damn small I figure it sure as hell isn't going to fit on the new 1.6 liter zc motor I'm getting installed.
So I figured I'd try going all out and maybe getting a cold air intake instead of just a stock crx si intake or something.
I was cruisin around ebay just kinda browsin..sorta like window shopping i guess.
I see like ingen and aem intakes for you know 160-200 bucks...really don't feel like paying that much jsut for an intake.
Then i see these other "cold air intake" but I'm not to sure on them.
From some of the cold air intakes I've seen they usually go down and end up under teh car or behind the front bumper, these I see on here look like they just postion the filter over the hole that has a pipe that leads to an opening in the bumper....I guess that would be cold air coming in but yea I'm a noob so I thought I'd ask.
SO anyways I was wondering what would be the best and hopefully cheaper than 100 bucks cold air or just plain intake to use on a 89 crx hf with the zc swapped in?

True cold air intake (the ones 100+ bones) usually are the ones that go alway down to the bumper. But if your just looking for cheep impovement over stock system. Look into a short ram air or intake, thats the one that puts the filter where the old box was, just behind the passenger headlight. True it may not be 100% cold air like the expensive bumper mounts, but lots easier to hook up and cheaper (ebay 20-40$ range) or you could make one with some large exhaust tubing i suppose if you could find some 4" or so. Just my 2cents
The expensive CAI that go below the headlight are best because they get almost all cold air. However, having a "short ram" intake, that sits right where the air box was, and putting some cheap *** flexible aluminum foil tubing down the tube leading to your bumper will do the same as a true CAI. Just position the aluminum tube close to the filter. It'll save you a lot of cash in the end. Also, if you get a cheap *** short ram ($9.99 ebay special kind), you should replace the filter with a nice K&N filter (or something like that). Not necessary right away, but will help in the performace department.
