need help installing side molding on driver side door.

need help installing side molding on driver side door.
When I got my car the driver side door molding was comming off. I got new clips and am now trying to install them but in order for the plastic clips to go into the door it needs to be turned sideways but if I do that there is no way I can slip the clips onto the molding itself. Is there some trick in doing this? Any help would be appreciated.

Put the clips on the molding first and then put match the clips with the holes
