Default 98 Civic EX TERRIBLE fuel economy!

I have a 98 Civic EX (auto) and used to get 300-350 miles to the tankful, just depending on city/highway driving. I now (and have for the past year or so) been getting about 200 miles to the tank. I can push it to 235 miles, but that is with a limp fuel-gauge needle. I've put in a new rotor button, plugs, wires and distributor since then, hoping it would help... to no avail. What else could be doing this?

Peace,
Paul

How's your timing? I've been getting REALLY shitty mileage also and haven't been able to figure this out. New plugs, wires, fuel filter, and still shitty mileage. Timing is on to factory spec. Since they changed my timing belt I've been having to use at least 89 octane so my motor WON'T ping. My guess the timing belt if off by a tooth.

Another problem could be a clogged catalytic converter, it does happen eventually.

Try some injector cleaner too.

Not sure how my timing is.... i'm a mechanical moron... i get a guy at work to help with the piddly stuff (like the wires and plugs) I have a fuel filter I bought a while ago, but it looked rough to change out.... draining the whole system etc.

But if the catalytic converter starts to crap out, doesn't the car bog down a lot? Like very horrible driving? My motor doesn't bog down, but just eats gas as if I were a B18C on turbo or something. Still can't fix it. Stock D15B7.

You lose hardly any fuel at all. Like maybe 3 tablespoons and it's an easy job.

The only going to the negative battery terminal. There is also a black wire from your valve cover to the chassis and from the transmission to the chassis. Go to a custom audio shop and have news w/ connectors made out of 4 gauge speaker wire.
