Cannot find neutral on '04 Honda Rebel when running
I got a 2004 Rebel this week. I have a VERY difficult time finding neutral when the engine is running. Sometimes it is difficult to shift up, for instance going to 2nd to 3rd. Any ideas?
The dealer indicated that maybe the idle is too fast. I adjusted it to a lower RPM, but it does not appear to help. They also indicated that this is not an uncommon problem.

I had the same problem with the Rebel I used during MSF. The instructor told me to rev it up around 2000 RPM and shift to Neutral. It worked. I don't know why, but try to open the throttle a lil before you shift to Neutral. If not, by a Kawasaki, their Neutral finder is 100% every time.
I have an 02 or 01 rebel and my gears work fine. The only thing is that 1st and 2nd are very close so getting into neutral can be a little tricky. A gentle tap usually does the trick.
